I can only deliver work with which I am 100% satisfied. Anything less than that is not in my inventory. And if I am 100% satisfied, the client is too.

George Lucas said, "a movie is never finished, it is just left as it is". He might have been referring to a translation as well. Most of the time I'm happy with my results; however, I might disagree with some terminology that the client wants me to use ("dispositivos" instead of "aparatos", etc.)

What makes us different from machine translators is that we can understand the difference between wrong and right, and can say whether something is appropriate or inappropriate.
Therefore, it is essential, that a translator has to be 100% satisfied with his/her final translation. If you say no, then you should immediately stop and look for another job.
We are language surgeons, we carry out surgery on text. If we fail, the patient dies. Think of that. ▲ Collapse

Reading your comments, it looks like the yes and no eventually turn to mean the same. Those who say they are 100% satisfied with their work are doing their best and won't send a translation with which they are not fully satisfied. Those answering no do the same, but think a job cannot be 100% as perfection does not exist. It's a matter of defining "100%" then, isn't it?

As many, I answered no, for I do think that perfection is impossible to reach and there's always place for improvement. Also, what is perfect for someone is not perfectly right for another translator, for we are humans and our sensitivities do play their roles, are subjective and different.
I never thin anything I do is perfect. I may be fully satisfied, however ▲ Collapse

I think all good translators are perfectionists and know that, by definition, perfection is unachievable. It doesn't stop us striving for it however.

While I'm satisfied when I do my translation (I rarely do "drafts" because I'm afraid I won't get back and fix the things that bothered me), my first re-read shows up many things I want to change. I make those changes and feel happy with what I've done. But I also usually do a second re-read, and even then I find things I want to change.
So...yes, I'm satisfied when I do the work, but when I'm exposed to it again I usually find ways to improve it.
