As a new member on the site I`m not quite sure I understand well how to create corect messages when quoting. What can you advise, what are your suggestions? Thanks in advance.

How short would depend on the individual circumstances, but the message must always be 100% positive. If you lack one of the fundamental requirements then it probably isn't worth quoting; if you lack one of the recommended ones then either ignore the problem or turn it around (e.g. they prefer a target country resident, but you reckon this text needs an awareness of the local situation).

Really, if they have a list of "wants" and you can tick all the boxes, then that's all you need to say. However, you should find something specific to put you a head above all the others who can tick all the boxes, too. Just one or maybe a couple of things though, not your CV! You should include links to that, to your professional profile(s), to your website...
Remember that you're the one offering the service to a client, so you're the one who gives rates and payment terms, even though you may not be able to give an exact quote for the job before knowing more. For delivery deadline, they might have given you theirs; otherwise let them know your estimated date, if indeed you know enough at this stage. Even if it's an agency that's clearly going to want to specify what it's going to pay, and when, I still reserve the right to quote my own terms, or I graciously accept to agree to those they offer as they just happen to coincide with mine . Remember, this email will set the tone of future relations with this new client, maybe for years to come, so make sure you give the right impression from the start.
Lastly, make sure the subject line of an email quote contains enough information to link it to the job, and gives a taster of why this particular email is going to be worth reading. ▲ Collapse

My way is short, positive, friendly, no marketing/management babble or grandstanding or flattery, just a normal message saying hi, I could do it for you, here's my CV, let me know if you're interested.

Thank you for your quick respond and I must say I felt that the message should be laconic and precise as much as possible. But you say positive, does that mean meeting all the necessary criteria?
