I can't believe this poll is running right now. Just yesterday I was finishing a job and my keyboard went insane. I replaced it today and finished the job, and had to take 5% off my bill for late delivery.

I never changed my keyboard - which means I work on it for 8 years now I never broke up, so no need to buy new one.

Wow, I'm a bit surprised by people like Anna and others who told me they very rarely change their keyboard. You shouldn't think you are an exception, Aurora, someone told me he changed his computer twice but kept his keyboard.
This shows me that the quality of the keyboards is generally very good. I think most of them now have a self-lubrication system, but I'm not sure how I should clean such a keyboard. What's the right way to do it?

I have an IT expert at home so it's for him to decide when to buy a new keyboard. I just try not to spill coffee over it, nor season it with breadcrumbs too much Our present keyboard has already survived over 5 years of moderately intensive use and it still doesn't seem in need of retirement

Mine went kaput today, too!! Fortunately, I had one in reserve.
This is the third or fourth time in my at-home career that I have worn one out. They have a lifetime of a certain number of keystrokes.

I work on a laptop, so it's quite difficult for me to change the keyboard without changing the computer. And if I decide to do so, it's normaly not because of the keyboard but laptop's obsolete features.
Actually, I didn't know which answer to choose...
I have never ever broke the keyboard, but I know people who are really obsessioned with having a perfect keyboard (surprisingly they don't use a computer as much as I do).

I killed generations of "mice" which are hanging upside down on my "computer-kill"-wall, together with various deceased hard disks (better than deer heads, right?), however, I never managed to destroy a keyboard.
When kept clean and sanitized on a regular basis, they seem to last forever.

Not that my fingers are so huge but I don't like the small movements of the pad. I feel restricted there.
I am sure, however, that if I started woking on a laptop I would get used to it (adaptability to the environment )

Hi,
Sometimes I just need a change and buy a new keyboard, hoping it will take the boredom out of daily routine (something maybe in bright green...). Once though my two year-old daughter got a hold of my keyboard - they are not childproof!
Somebody asked about cleaning. There are mini keyboard vacuums available on the market.

We have two computers. One desktop and one laptop. The desktop is pretty new and the keyboard is, in my opinion, the best keyboard I've ever used.
The laptop is another story! Only about two years old but it causes nothing but trouble. The internal fan gets blocked with dust etc and has to be taken in to get cleaned out every 3 months. On top of that the letter 'T' somehow detached itself a few weeks ago! I don't think I'm that heavy handed but I guess it is one of the most commonly... See more We have two computers. It is quite hard to find a keyboard that has firm enough springs to stand up to my thrashing! I make masses of typos anyway (That's how - or why - I learnt to proof read ) And my fingers simply skate at random over the cheap keys.
A good IBM keyboard came with a company computer, and when the computer was scrapped (disk too small...) I was allowed to keep the keyboard! It has marks where my nails dig in near the d... See more
