All of them are needed

I think they are all important in running a business. In other words, anyone who is able to run a business for decades, probably has all of the skills mentioned. Skills can be developed, but I believe that every succesful freelancer already had them at the very beginning. You will simply fail without them.

Which workers are we talking about? I wonder if there is a skill group that is transversal to all workers…

it depends on which sort of the employers we are talking about. Today, there is wide diversity of various kinds of employers: investors, manufacturers, various owners, specialized professionals, etc.
The financial investors want the problem-solving people, the institutional investors need physically strong team leaders with commanding voice, the manufacturers and the wholesalers often benefit from critical thinking and analysis, etc etc

An interesting selection

Problem-solving, maybe? No, not knowing how to solve special cases of Navier-Stokes' or Schroedinger's. No TRIZ either. Here's a problem they want you to solve: 1. You don't need this thing; 2. Your customer doesn't need this thing; 3. Now find a way to sell this thing to your customer. A skill set to die for (I don't have it, btw). Your customer doesn't need this thing; 3. Now find a way to sell this thing to your customer. A skill set to die for (I don't have it, btw). Critical thinking and analysis are a lot of fun if you view them as mental exercises of taking any concept apart and convincing yourself and others that it makes no sense. You're just supposed to know the limits beyond which your doubt is not allowed to go. You can laugh at someone who takes a ten days old weather forecast for gospel truth, but you'll be cancelled out of existence for doubting a single claim uttered by an activist who knows exactly where our planet's entire climate is going, why it's going there, and what needs to be done to stop it from going there. An interesting selection of skills. A lot of texts I get to translate (and to review the translations of) are badly written and need to be transformed in a big way to make any sense in the target language. Like that subject line in a letter which, if translated literally, would read something like "On creating a committee for handing over indoor spaces by construction certificates of a subcommittee of buildings..." I rewrote the text to explain the meaning behind it (as I understood it) and got a complaint from the customer saying, "Are your sure your translation is accurate? It doesn't look like the source text at all." I justified my line of reasoning in a reply letter, and they came back with another complaint saying that we shouldn't be allowed to make the translation that much longer than the source text because lack of space. They also "corrected" my translation while making it much more obscure than it originally was. No, it's not easy to find an employer who'd genuinely value strong problem solving and analytical skills. They usually prefer obedience ▲ Collapse
