history matters Nov 21, 2011

I voted "yes". But actually it's inbetween suggested answers.
I was born in USSR. And it was pretty late shifting period of it's history. Not to mention I was a toddler so can not remember much.

It's only a few hours away anyway. And every time I have to go back I thank my lucky stars that it's only briefly...

Yes, but... Nov 21, 2011

I only just moved back in September after 11 years abroad. I am still going through reverse culture shock!

How about when you were born at sea or in an airplane? Or in a country that no longer exists, which changed its name or borders or was absorbed by another country or separated from a larger country...
Enough reasons
None apply to me - I live in the country where I was born.

Although I was born and grew up in the United States, I've now actually lived in Spain longer than I did in the US. I've reached the point where I see myself being from the two countries and feel perfectly at home in both of them.

What is the trend? Nov 21, 2011

Nearly 35% (a relatively large number) of the translators who have polled are in another country than where they were born..do we have to infer anything from this? A natural sequel to this poll would be to ask (if you are currently in a country where you were not born), if you are predominantly working in language pairs consisting of the country of origin and the adopted one?

I was born in the UK but I currently live in Spain. (I also lived abroad when I was growing up)
