Transcription with/without script Auteur du fil: Thereza HURTADO

Hi,
I have a client asking me to give him rates for transcription with script and without script...what's that??
It's not transcription/translation, just transcript including script and excluding script.
Someone can help me out please?
Thanks a lot,

I think your best bet would be to ask the client to clarify that. | | | Thereza HURTADO États-Unis Local time: 14:33 anglais vers portugais + ... AUTEUR DU FIL Thank you Tina | Jun 24, 2014 |
Thanks Tina,
I think that will be my best option.
I just wanted to ask here first since there are som many of us here with different experience.

Possibly a Brazilian habit | Jun 24, 2014 |
Here in Brazil I often get requests for a "video transcription in Portuguese". An inquiry reveals that the video is in English.
Some people have no clue on what they need, but they want it anyway.
So I explain that the transcript of a video in English would be in English, and they confirm that they want a transcription AND its translation into Portuguese.

Some people have no clue on what they need, but they want it anyway.
So I explain that the transcript of a video in English would be in English, and they confirm that they want a transcription AND its translation into Portuguese.
At this point I inquire further on what do they need them for:
a) a full transcript, to convert that into an article, blog, whatever; or maybe to adapt and re-shoot in Portuguese?
b) for dubbing?
c) for subtitling?
I also ask them what they need the transcript (in EN) for, explaining that it will double their cost, while being useless for any of the three purposes above.
When I mention 'cost' and 'double', most of them seem to wake up. So they say they want to subtitle it. Okay... do they want just the translation for subtitles, or also time-spotting? By the way, do they want me to burn the subtitles and/or author a DVD as well?
At this time, I direct them to this page - usually its PT version for Brazilians - in order to avoid including that lengthy explanation in my message. However this entire dialog (or should I say "trialog"?) is often relayed through a translation agency, so the end-client will never see that info to help them decide.
In a number of cases, they only request the translation. The agency tells me the end-client will take it from there. Sometimes they call me several weeks later saying, "the client wants YOU to subtitle the whole thing; can you do it?" It always makes me envision their attempts at learning to time-spot and burn subtitles, before they realize that it is not so simple and automatic that it should be free.
So in most cases it's all about providing enough information to the client, in order to enable them to make a sensible request. ▲ Collapse | | | Thereza HURTADO États-Unis Local time: 14:33 anglais vers portugais + ... AUTEUR DU FIL Transcription with/without script | Jul 5, 2014 |
Hi guys,
Thanks a lot for you replies.
I asked the client and what they meant was "with script" they wanted to know how much I charge for the translation WITH the voice over and "without script" was to quote just for the recording.
Thank you so much for reading my post and replying.
I truly appreciate!
Thereza
