We did not change the names and the client threw a fit over it. We just wanted to make sure our concerns were well grounded, as this is the first time anyone's ever become so upset over something like this.

Clients cannot tell translators how to translate, especially that there might be legal consequences for changing names in legal documents, just exactly the same way we do not tell pharmacists what to put into various medications or train operators how to drive.

In all the countries I work with for a document to be legally accepted as a translation of an official document it has to be a sworn or certified translation, you can't just use any translation.
