I am a former WFP 3 user. In order to save a TM once I had finished the translation in WFP3 what I used to do was simply create a new TM with a name that would remind me of the characteristics of the translation find a location for it tick the box and copy all the segments into it,

It doesn't seem so straightforward in WFP4, last week after I had finished the translation I pressed the cleanup button and thought that by doing the cleanup I would be copying the TMs from my new transla

It doesn't seem so straightforward in WFP4, last week after I had finished the translation I pressed the cleanup button and thought that by doing the cleanup I would be copying the TMs from my new translation into the pre-existing TM that I was using. Now opening that TM this doesn't seem to have happened, so what gives?

Is it possible in WFP4 to create a freestanding TM in a simple and straightforward way?

I am really sorry to be asking these very obvious questions but the existing handbook is really sketchy, merely limiting itself more or less just to reproducing different boxes and without giving any real explanation or a comprehensive overview as to what is happening.

There is also a video of course, produced by Dominique but actually I hate videos, they usually spend loads of times explaining things of little interest and not very much time on the subject I need information on, Printed information is much better.

ALT Down? Jun 1, 2016

Maria,

I'm not really sure what you're trying to achieve... what is the point of having a bunch of project specific TMs for you? Is it because you need to send them to your client and don't want to send your entire TM, only the TM for the project?

Personally I work with only a handful of main TMs, either customer specific, subject specific, etc. It has proven to be easier to manage than a bunch of smaller TMs, and in most cases I never send my TMs to clients, and they

First of all, did you import the WFP3 TM you want to use (it has to be converted from WFP3 to WFP4)?

In WFP4, I set whatever TM I want for the project in hand as the "primary" TM in WFP4. Each time I hit ALT-down to move on to the next segment, the TU should be written to that TM. Purple color means it's been committed to the TM, unless I'm mistaken.

Are you using a TM with each project? Did you check that the correct TM is defined in the project settings? It isn't on "read only" mode?

There should be no need to "clean up" as each TU should be written into the project TM as you go along... then just use the "save translated file" button. If for whatever reason you think some TUs weren't written to the TM, then use the "commit all" button. Of course, your TM has to be set properly during the project creation for this to work...

Otherwise, if you are using the "clean up" tab, did you check the appropriate boxes? I haven't tried using that feature yet in WFP4 but it should work if you create a new TM and update that way?

Thank you so much for your reply! Jun 1, 2016

I don't necessarily think that having humongous TMs is necessarily a good thing. I prefer to break down my TMs in greater detail so with info example contract documents say have a bunch of TMs on subcontracting or employment or whatever... It is just the way I like to work...

And I've just realised where I was going wrong, I overlooked using the Commit to TM button! So no my segments weren't purple... Or mauve. So I think I've just resolved my issue.

Errr, but now I'm

Errr, but now I'm pressing "Commit" and the segments aren't turning mauve...

Many thanks once again.

To each his/her own! Jun 2, 2016

Of course we all have different workflow preferences

Segments which haven't been committed look more "pink" and segments that are committed should be more purple/blue - not sure what mauve is closer to?

Are you using ALT-down when moving from segment to segment?

Feel free to send me a PM through my profile, we can exchange screenshots if you wish to clarify what your TM settings and colors are

If you are hitting commit all button and status is not changing to purple, then I think you may have some TM settings that need to be changed somewhere...

As for the "don't overwrite TU" drop down menu under project cleanup, which option do you have checked? Perhaps John could clarify exactly what those different options mean, I'm not 100% sure but I think it means something like this (to be confirmed):

- client sends you their TM to use with the project (or you use your own TM)
- some of the existing TUs in that TM are not suitable, and you change them, thus creating a new TU
- options on how that new TU is added to the TM - overwrite the old TU (so only the new version will be included in TM, not the old version you changed). append - must be add the new TU in addition to old TU?

Are you sure you checked the TM to be updated before running project cleanup?
