... ask yourself Why? Why would a sane stranger offer tons of money way above current market rates and send the attached job right away even before receiving the approval from a potential vendor, without NDA (a script implies copyrights/intellectual property), tests, samples, negotiations, any kind of personal communication, any specific questions asked, any advertised or proven experience in literary/movie world etc etc to a translator specializing in fishery and biology?

Sorry.

Ondemandfreelance/Noble Path Lawfirm Sep 17, 2024

I received the same email and was also contacted through TM-Town! She then sent another email mentioning someone else would send me a contract.

I received the contract today, sent by [email protected]

I find it hilarious that they create a scam and then call the fake company “Noble Path Law Firm”. 🫣

Have you ever submitted a support ticket? Sep 17, 2024

This scam has been going on for over a month now and I wonder why Proz doesn't take any action regarding this scammers spamming translators via TM-Town?

Of course these forums are moderated and they won't post this comment. Why don't they spend their energy to preventing the scams via their platform instead of censoring the moderated forums?

Hello sahikatr, moderating has nothing to do with censoring. Moreover, if you don't submit any support ticket with all data (IP, email address etc) available, nobody would know what data should be blocked.

Finally, please note that it is impossible to block all gmail addresses and all IPs from which scammers may attack you, so you need to get educated about possible scams as only you yourself can ensure your own safety.

Just be mindful of potential scams: as Dan Lucas said, if it sounds too good to be true...

And there are other red flags: the scammer might appear to have an email address from a legitimate company but has no digital footprint (LinkedIn profile, etc.), they send you the source text straight away without discussing further details, the ST is publicly available online and is likely an old document, among others.

they keep changing names Sep 18, 2024

Hello Natalie,

The scammers keep changing names and websites so I don't think blocking the available gmail addresses will protect you from getting these type of e-mails.

Secondly, yes I have tried support tickets and I don't find it efficient. Given the information here in these threads, Proz should take an action, at least prevent them from sending messages via TM-Town. It's you and proz who needs to get educated about the ways of making it happen obviously.

Hi guys. Just registered to say I've got a similar e-mail, now from Pamela Mathews, from ondemandfreelance.

Thanks to this topic, I've confirmed it is a scam. They want me to translate a movie script (and they even didn't get the movie name right: the file is named "Flight", but the movie name is "Flightplan", haha).

Be careful with these scammers!

Dear Mauricio,

I hope this message finds you well.

We are excited to offer you a project involving the translation of a 145-page movie script (22,117 words) from English to Portuguese. The timeline for completion is two weeks, and we’re working under a tight deadline. As an initial requirement, we ask for a submission of 40% of the translation (approximately 44 pages) within the first four days of the project start.

Here are the key project details:

- Project Type: Movie Script Translation
- Word Count: 22,117 words (145 pages)
- Budget : £5,200
- Payment Rate: 0.24 per word
- Payment Terms: A full project purchase order (PO) will be issued after the initial submission of 40% of the work.
- Deadlines:
- First 40% submission: within 4 days of project commencement
- Final delivery: within 2 weeks of project start
- Contract: A contract can be provided upon request
- Expected start of project - Sun, September 1st
- Expected submission of project - wed/Thu, September 4th/5th

We’ve attached the script for your reference. If these terms are agreeable, please confirm your availability so we can move forward.

Note: Upon completion and delivery of the initial 40% of the project and after its review, a full project PO(payout order) will be made available to you.

Given your skills and the importance of this project, we are confident that your contribution will be invaluable. Please let us know your availability.

Upon successful completion, we would also be happy to explore future collaboration opportunities, whether on a full-time, part-time, or contract basis.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Best regards,
Pamela Mathews

I recieved the same message here. At first i went through with all, until the payment of the 40% sumbission, they sent a reciept of a transaction and told me to use this website:
Please visit the live chat on https://vanguardglobalcapital.com if delay persists to your local bank account.

And that is when i confirmed it to be a scam, for they requested a "refundable deposit of 268BBP. in orther to be able to use my balance on their acc.

At least, the movie was not so bad. Lol

The same happened to me Sep 25, 2024

Hi guys,
Just to confirm this OnDemandFreelance (Pamela Matthews) is total scam. The exact same M.O., asking 40% within four days, same GBP amount, every thing exactly as reported above. Further, a notice from a Vanguard Global Capital is sent and when you try to transfer the amount, you are asked for a 'refundable' deposit of around GBP250, to generate an IMF code, which would be the key to get the money.
