Easy vs difficult Jun 8, 2021

I might answer some from time to time for fun, but it's difficult to think of something as "fun" when it's so hard (and therefore frustrating) to find the answer

All our work is a chain of hard problems you have to keep cracking one by one for hours on end. I mean, there are easy jobs, but a customer who needs such a job done won't probably want to hire a human these days: there are free MT tools that are extremely good at easy tasks. There are easy KudoZ questions, too, because many askers want to spare themselves as much intellectual labor as possible and just break their entire projects into words and collocations for the proz to translate. And there are KudoZ contributors who manage to answer tons of such – and harder – questions without thinking at all, just by yanking random words out of their brain's RAM and joining them into strings (or by doing a couple of searches and picking answers from machine-translated nonsense like qaz.wiki). I wonder how they cope with the idea of having to make themselves a laughingstock every time, but they, too, manage to collect quite a few KudoZ points. In my language pair, there is only one character I know of who is just as bad as I described, but there are a few others who consistently produce poor-quality answers and still get points. P. S.: In no way am I suggesting you try this sort of approach to KudoZ

Yes, it is Jun 8, 2021

Just think hard.

And don't do it for winning ranks. Ranks aren't of much use anyway.
See it as a way to gain experience.

Always worth the effort Jun 8, 2021

Hello, I'm pretty new at ProZ and I have been told that earning KudoZ was a good way to improve my position on the translators' list. However, I've looked at the questions and they all seem REALLY hard to answer, and they're almost all already answered by some expert. I have less than a year of experience, so, if I decided to answer the question, I would probably spend a long time searching for the term only to find the same one as the expert (if I even find something) and my answer probably wouldn't be chosen anyway. It seems like a waste of time, time that I could have used for something else. Is it really worth it to try? How could I possibly get my answer to be chosen?

Firstly, obviously the questions are hard, since PRO level ones at least are supposed to be posted by professional translators who can't answer them.

Even if you don't manage to get any points at first, it's always good practice because it will make you think hard about solving a difficult question. It will help you with your own translations.
Don't be deterred!

I guess, Yes. Nov 6, 2023

At this stage, I have no KudoZ points, but I am required to earn them on ProZ. Considering this, you may want to start earning KudoZ points as well.
