It was after his year in Germany that he first began to consider applied linguistics as a career option and received a bachelor of translation degree (EN/NL/DE) in 2000 from the Department of Translation and Interpreting of the Faculty of International Business and Communication at Zuyd University of Applied Sciences in Maastricht, the Netherlands. Over the next couple of years, he was sworn in at the District Court of Breda as a certified translator and worked in various translation positions throughout the Netherlands, including at The Hague.
In 2002, Robert and his wife, Nicole, took the step of moving their young family from the Netherlands to Canada where they began their own translation agency in the beautiful Okanagan Valley in the southern interior of British Columbia.
