français term

infiltrations facetaires

français vers anglais Médecine Médecine (général) surgery/spinal problems
This is a letter from a doctor to a patient who has various lumbar problems and the doctor is discussing possible treatment.

I have no idea what this refers to. Is anyone able to help?

Discussion

Wendy Cummings (asker) Jun 7, 2006:
I thought it might refer to "facet joints", but I hadn't yet deduced the injection bit. Thanks - I'll look into it.
Marilyn Amouyal Jun 7, 2006:
An infiltration is a local injection; have you looked at injections into the facet joints?

This last reference concerns complications of such an injection.
"Lumbar facet joint injections are commonly employed in the treatment of low back pain and are considered to be relatively safe with few known complications. We report the case of septic facet arthritis following a periarticular facet injection in a patient with recurrent urinary tract infections. "

facet joint infiltration

facet joint infiltration - a common technique for degen. lumbal problems
Peer comment(s):

agree Michael Barnett : "Injection" outgoogles "infiltration" but I personally like "infiltration" better. I think it better conveys the idea that the joint is being perfused broadly rather than in a pinpoint manner.
