français term

un contrat multisupport

français vers anglais Affaires / Finance Assurances Life insurance
The term comes within a short description of a new life insurance product/range. The full text reads as follows:

Elle lance une nouvelle assurance vie, qui permet de combiner les avantages fiscaux que présente la technique de la participation aux bénéfices différée à un contrat multisupport (près de 200 supports).

I'm totally baffled. All help welcome!

Claire Culliford (asker) Sep 15, 2009:
Assurance vie vs life insurance Thanks for your input Ruth. I completely agree with what you say. This type of French 'assurance vie' isn't typically what we think of as life insurance (in England, where I live, at least). It's more like an investment than simply something that you pay in to so as to protect/cover family etc in the event of a death. Unfortunately, the only translation for 'vie assurance' would seem to be 'life insurance', so I guess unless you're translating something like I am, which explains in more detail what the term means, you could end up making an incorrect assumption that the two things are exactly the same. Think this is definitely one for me to point out to my translator colleagues.
RUTH ELIZABETH BARTLETT Sep 14, 2009:
Supports d'investissement [modifier]

On distingue deux types de contrat :
Les contrats en euros ;
Les contrats multisupport, qui comportent à la fois un fonds en euros et des unités de compte investies principalement en actions..
RUTH ELIZABETH BARTLETT Sep 14, 2009:
Definition of "Assurance vie"? i had an Assurance Vie that wasn't what i would call an insurance but a kind of long term savings account...so I'm not sure if this should be understood as life insurace as such..

multi-fund contract/policy

I have found this term; e.g.

d'affaires, en tête des multisupports par les fonctionnalités ... of the multi-fund contracts in terms of features offered to customers. ...

Thanks for this! This is, like Mark Nathan's response, definitely the kind of thing I'm after. Much appreciated.

agree rkillings : In essence, the policyholder has a choice of 'funds' (meaning merely portfolios) of different styles

agree Andrew Mason : I think though you need to add the term 'insurance' because one is insured - if one dies the sums invested go to the beneficiary.

multiline contract

My insurance agent speaks of a multi line discount, because I insure both my home and automobile with her.

So, multi-line or multiline contract seems to make sense.

Note from asker:
Thanks for this! I agree that in terms of certain insurance products this would definitely fit. With life insurance, however, I think it's talking more about multiple investments (as Mark Nathan points out - see below).

multi-asset fund

Not sure if this is the right term - but the idea is that the investment is with many different funds.

Also, did you check the glossary....

Thanks Mark! This is definitely what I'm after. Multi-fund/investment makes complete sense in the context. Apologies - I had done a search on multisupport but nothing came up. I'm not sure why.
