français term

tranche

français vers anglais Affaires / Finance Finance (général)
This term is found in an underwriting agreement, I know the same term does exist in finance in English, but I'm not sure if I should use it here. I can't give a great deal of context as the document is confidential.

'XXX s'engage a emettre d'une part...et d'autre part...en quatre tranches distinctes...'-I hope you manage to glean something from that!

Thank you!

I agree with Nikki. It looks like you're being excessively cautious - as long as you don't mention the company or product name, what does it matter?
Nikki Scott-Despaigne Nov 26, 2011:
Context Whilst understanding the confidentiality problem, which we all have from time to time and as a basic rule of professional integrity, is there no chance of a little more context? All you are likely to get is a series of the standard likely possibilities. Instalments reads as a good choice but how can anyone tell without more context... pretty please??? Looks a little like a guess-the-missing-word game as is! ;-)

With no more context, I'd feel safest with Rebecca's suggestion of using 'tranche'.
Rebecca Davis Nov 26, 2011:
You quite often see "tranche" in a financial context, so I would keep it

Yes, use the same word here. Especially because the four tranches are *distinct*, which certainly suggests that they differ is some respect (it doesn't really matter how).

Depending on the nature of the thing that is being segmented. Or, for that matter, segments could work too.
