Technical specifications and manuals for construction equipment
A series of purely technical documents and detailed assembly instructions, as well as user manuals for a large Spanish manufacturer of construction formwork, boarding and scaffolding systems. The greatest challenge was not so much the very specialized terminology but the fact the instructions must be coherent, logical, unequivocal and easy to follow. With such complex systems as, for example, scaffolding for an arched gateway, this requires very strict discipline, well-focused attention and the ability to see the whole picture at the end. A less technical, nonetheless important, subject covered in these documents was the so-called industrial safety.

User manuals for household appliances and toys
The project is in fact ongoing and I have worked on it for more than 5 years now. Thousands of pages of various user manuals: safety, assembly, maintenance, cleaning and utilization. Texts addressed to the general public (users), so they are not very technical, however, clarity, precision and simplicity require from a translator care and attention to every detail. Another typical problem with such texts is a relatively high risk of producing loan translations instead of employing customary phrases (e.g. for such sentences as "Keep away from children"). Fortunately, I have managed to work out my own technique for avoiding such pitfalls.

Translation of articles about various innovation, research and development projects co-funded by the European Union. More than 40.000 words each month for more than three years now. The articles are swarming with very specialized vocabulary from many different fields: astronomy, physics, agriculture, medicine, chemistry, ecology, social sciences, linguistics, pedagogy, etc. Consequently, each article requires quite a lot of searching, not only on Internet but also in expert publications and specialized dictionaries - sometimes I even need to contact professionals (for example my doctor) to find the right term. Demanding and time consuming but quite interesting and very developing work.

Operational Risk Management IT System For a Large Polish Bank
We translated detailed specifications and terms and conditions applicable to a public tender for the implementation of an application that supports the operational risk management in one of the largest Polish banks. Actually, the project included translation both from PL into EN and vice versa when the English-speaking tenderer responded to the Polish bank’s RFI. As is customary with this type of projects, we were pretty much pressed for time and – as is customary in DIALEKT – we made our client happy. Unfortunately, the client is an IT company, not a translation business, and they are not a ProZ member so no feedback on ProZ can be provided. Nevertheless, we will be happy to present more details to any interested client in order to support the credibility of this report.

The project took a whole year. There were 5 translators, 1 project manager, and 1 native proofreader involved who actually worked full-time from Jan. to Dec. 2004 to translate around 530.000 words from English into French. The bibliographic “coordinates” of the publication are as follows: W. Lipoński, ‘L'Encyclopédie des sports’, Éditions Gründ, Paris 2005 (ISBN 2-7000-1227-5). The DIALEKT logo can be found on the 2nd page of the encyclopedia.

A large-scale translation and interpreting project between French and Polish for a branch of a multinational food processing group. It required our active assistance for a period of nearly 5 years (from 2000 to 2004) in coaching and guiding over the series of data gathering and certification phases: from the creation of a documentary basis for ISO 9001: 2000, HACCP and OHSAS 18001: 1999 management systems, through analyses of business operations and routine practices, to reviews of the performance indicators and interviews focused on the operating environment and the management system. All those efforts came to fruition with the award of an AFAQ certification confirmed in subsequent surveillance audits. Specific letters of reference (one from the auditor and one from the audited company) can be presented on request in order to verify the credibility of this report.
