espagnol vers anglais: El deporte General field: Autre Detailed field: Sports / forme physique / loisirs
Traduction - anglais Sport is a regulated physical activity, normally competitive in nature, that can improve the physical fitness (M. Antúnez, 2001) of the person doing the activity, and that has properties that differentiate it from the game.
The RAE (Royal Spanish Academy), in its Spanish dictionary, defines sport as a «physical activity, practiced as a game or competition, whose taking part is done either as training or playing by a set of rules»; in addition, in a second, broader sense, as «recreation, pastime, pleasure, fun or physical exercise, usually done outdoors».
On the other hand, European Charter for Sport defines it as: «All forms of physical activities that, through organised participation or not, have as their objective the expression or improvement of one's physical and mental condition, the development of social relationships or the attainment of results in competition at all levels».
Institutionally, for an activity to be considered a sport, it must be endorsed by recognized administrative and control structures that are in charge of regulating it (the sporting organisations).
The fact that any activity isn't recognised institutionally as a sport, doesn't prevent it from being one unofficially, which happens with rural sports or with alternative sports.
