Source text - English Track 11 Academy Street
As we travel along Academy Street, look up to your right. The wonderful mosaic panels and architecture belong to the office building of the Rose Street Foundry. Metal works of all types were done here but in the later years they moved into the production of automatic electric welding machinery. These helped to build the Pluto pipeline (pipe line under the ocean) which crossed the English channel to supply the armed forces during the later stages of the second world war.
We also pass many popular bars and venues known locally for their live Scottish music. Indeed, the Highlands is famous for its live hoochtiecheuchtie toe tapping music often played in hotels and bars throughout the summer
Track 12 Merkinch
As we cross Friars Bridge which joins the two oldest parts of the city, we leave the commercial part and enter a now more residential area but the names of the streets in Merkinch to our right, remind us of the long maritime history of Inverness with Jamaica Street, India Street and Madras Street. There could possibly even a naval connection with Nelson Street.
Track13 Huntly Street
We now have lovely views of the riverfront and the castle. On the opposite bank our oldest church, the Old High Church, then the Free North with the tallest steeple in Inverness, come into view
On the right, a splendid building with a very grand staircase, originally Queen Street Church, but now occupied by Chisholm’s Funeral Directors. They are authorised to use black traffic cones in its line of business.
Next on the right is Balnain House, the white building with the flag post and big chimneys. Originally built as a town house in 1726 in early Georgian style for a local Indigo merchant. It was used as a hospital for Hanoverian soldiers after the Battle of Culloden and was restored to its full glory in the 1990’s as a resource centre for Highland music. Unfortunately that project failed. It is now an office for The National Trust for Scotland.
On the right is St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church of 1837, home to some beautiful stained glass windows and very lavish Highland weddings, with the guests in traditional highland dress.
Just after the innovatively designed Kitchen Restaurant, we have the Highland House of Fraser. Here we have the only kilt making exhibition in Scotland by makers of bespoke hand sewn kilts for over 50 years. With thousands of tartans to choose from there’s sure to be a kilt here for anyone on board our bus today!

Alors que nous empruntons Academy Street, levez les yeux sur votre droite. Cet édifice à la belle architecture et aux magnifiques panneaux de mosaïque est un immeuble de bureaux qui appartient à la fonderie de Rose Street. Des ouvrages métalliques de tous types étaient réalisés ici, mais ces dernières années, la production s’est tournée vers les machines de soudage automatiques électriques. Ces ouvrages métalliques aidèrent à la construction des oléoducs PLUTO, qui passaient sous la Manche afin d’approvisionner les forces armées durant les dernières phases de la Seconde Guerre mondiale.
Nous passons également devant de nombreux bars et lieux populaires, connus localement pour leurs concerts de musique écossaise. Les Highlands sont en effet célèbres pour leur musique traditionnelle vivante, joyeuse et entraînante, souvent jouée dans les hôtels et les bars tout au long de l’été.
Piste 12 Merkinch
Alors que nous traversons le Friar’s Bridge, qui relie les deux parties les plus anciennes de la ville, nous quittons la partie commerciale et entrons désormais dans une zone plus résidentielle. Les noms de rue dans le quartier de Merkinch, sur notre droite, tels que Jamaica Street, India Street et Madras Street, nous rappellent cependant la longue histoire maritime d’Inverness. Nelson Street, nommée d’après le célèbre amiral, fait également penser à la marine.
Piste 13 Huntly Street
Nous pouvons désormais profiter de vues magnifiques sur le fleuve et sur le château. Sur la rive opposée, vous pouvez entrevoir notre plus vieille église, Old High Church, puis l’église Free North, qui possède le plus haut clocher d’Inverness.
Sur la droite, vous pouvez apercevoir un splendide édifice possédant un escalier grandiose. Il s’agissait à l’origine de l’église Queen Street, mais l’édifice abrite désormais l’entreprise de pompes funèbres D. Chisholm & Sons qui, dans le cadre de son activité, est autorisée à utiliser des cônes de signalisation noirs.
Juste à sa droite se trouve Balnain House (le bâtiment blanc avec le mât porte-drapeau et les grosses cheminées). Ce bâtiment fut construit dans un style géorgien en 1726 comme maison de ville pour un marchand local d’indigo. Il fut utilisé comme hôpital pour les soldats hanovriens après la bataille de Culloden, avant d’être restauré dans les années 1990 pour servir de centre de documentation sur la musique des Highlands et retrouver toute sa splendeur. Malheureusement, ce projet échoua et il abrite désormais des bureaux du National Trust for Scotland, l’organisme écossais chargé de la protection et de la promotion du patrimoine naturel et culturel de l'Écosse).
Sur la droite se trouve l’église Sainte-Marie, achevée en 1837 et appartenant à l’Église catholique romaine. Elle abrite des vitraux magnifiques et accueille des mariages grandioses se déroulant dans la pure tradition écossaise, où les invités sont habillés de costumes traditionnels de la région.
Plus loin, juste après le restaurant « The Kitchen » et sa conception novatrice, se trouve la Highland House of Fraser, où se tient la seule exposition d’Écosse consacrée à la fabrication de kilt, présentée par des fabricants de kilts faits sur mesure et cousus main depuis plus de 50 ans. Avec des milliers de tartans proposés, chacun dans ce bus y trouverait forcément le kilt qu’il lui faut !

As far as I can remember, I've always loved languages, which is why I naturally chose to make it my job. To understand another language and culture and transpose it in your own is a bit magical (I assure you!) and that's why translation slowly became obvious to me.
My favourite areas are Tourism, Culture, Entertainment, Marketing, Market Research, Business, International Institutions and Cooperation, Legal, and IT, but my training and various internships have allowed me to try many more. As a result, I can translate a wide range of fields.
I translate from English (UK/US) and Spanish (Spain) into French (France or Canada).
