Summary: The student must complete an assignment on biodiversity.
Setting the stage: Ghosts will visit him in a dream and demonstrate ways of understanding biodiversity.
The biodiversity ghost will highlight the loss of certain animal species and the consequences on the ecosystem. The endangered biodiversity ghost will mention the importance of the relationship that unites species to one another. The biodiversity ghost of the future will allow him to reflect on all that remains to be discovered. The video ends with suggestions on ways to get involved in order to preserve biodiversity.
After viewing the video, ask the students what their vision of biodiversity is. Where they stand on biodiversity? What is their relationship to their environment? Are they involved in activities that bring them in contact with wildlife (photography, canoeing, fishing, hunting)? Do they come into contact with wildlife? If so, how? Is biodiversity important to them? Why?
Invite students to draw something which represents their relationship with biodiversity.
This second activity will enable us to discover the different visions and relationships with biodiversity.
Print one copy of page 9 per student. Ask students to illustrate their relationship with biodiversity. This work can be done in class, for homework or in art class.
The drawings will be posted in the classroom during the presenter’s visit. Particular attention will be paid to the drawings that will highlight the different representations of biodiversity.

Background
I was born and raised in Montreal, Canada by Italian parents. I attended a bilingual high school (English/French) and completed my University studies in English. Armed with a Masters degree in translation from Concordia University (2001), I set off to Italy to put what I learned into practice. I was immediately hired by MBDA Italia Inc. (A world leader in Missile Systems). For 5 years I was their head interpreter/translator. My duties involved translating Italian operating manuals into English, simultaneous interpreting at press conferences, proofreading press releases and provided language training for non-English-speaking employees.
In 2007 I was recruited by the Canadian Armed Forces Language School (CFLS) in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec. I provided foreign language training to CAF members who would fill Military Attaché’s positions or other staff related functions abroad in conjunction with CAF’s operational needs. I represented CAF at national and international conferences held in the field of teaching English and French. I proofread student manuals and SLE language tests for the Public Service Commission. In 2010, I decided to take advantage of my diverse work experience and formal University training to venture into a freelance business.
