I have been living in England for 10 years. I worked for five years as a Library Assistant at the Bodleian Library (University of Oxford) and as French tutor in several tutorial colleges. Whilst in Oxford I become a Freelance Translator for APPbroadcast TV (Sunset+Vine, Oxford), an independent supplier of sports programming to broadcasters in the UK and overseas. I undertook translations of French dialogue into English as well as English into French for Channel 4 Television programs. From these translation projects, I learned how to work effectively under tight deadlines, and gained valuable insight into the media industry.
Following this, I worked as an in-house Technical Translator (French and Italian) for Powerbox International Ltd (http://www.powerbox.com). This allowed me to consolidate my skills and gain the experience necessary to work as a Freelance Translator on a full time basis. This post entailed updating and maintaining a database on a daily basis, and accurately translating specifications of each product. I had to ensure that all content was adapted to the French and Italian markets and that all safety manuals were translated to a high standard for international clients. This position required working closely with the marketing and advertising departments, as well as maintaining and updating different brand's websites. In particular I was in involved in producing printed catalogues and e-catalogues ready for the market. Powerbox remains one of my clients as a Freelance Translator.
Working as Freelance Translator has given me the opportunity to work on technical projects, and to focus on more specific areas like energy efficiency and renewable energy within industry: I have recently worked for a European training program linked to these themes. In addition I have experience in translating documents related to the subjects of Environment, Education, Travel and Tourism, Sailing, Cooking, Music and literature.
I only accept projects that I feel confident undertaking in terms of subject matter and I can work within tight deadlines without comprising quality.
In July 2013 I successfully completed a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Modern Language Studies through the Open University. My language pairs are: English/French, Spanish/French and Italian French.
I look forward to hearing from you. |
