Texte source - anglais Os actuais métodos de avaliação do estado nutricional em idosos, são tardios e pouco sensíveis na identificação de desnutrição, tendo em conta que uma percentagem significativa de indivíduos nesta faixa etária sofre deste problema. O objectivo deste trabalho foi avaliar marcadores de nutrição que pudessem ser mais sensíveis, reprodutíveis e identificativos de desnutrição nos indivíduos idosos. Estudaram-se 42 doentes internados (≥ 65 anos), e definiram-se grupos de desnutridos e normonutridos, de acordo com o IMC. Procedeu-se ao doseamento da grelina, leptina e adiponectina séricas, à avaliação do índice de massa corporal (IMC) e ao doseamento da pré-albumina, albumina e transferrina séricas, estabelecendo-se correlações entre estes valores. Os resultados mostraram a existência de uma forte associação entre a leptina e o IMC, bem como uma diferença significativa entre a leptina circulante quando comparados os grupos desnutridos e normonutridos. Em conclusão, poder-se-á dizer que apenas a leptina apresentou resultados promissores e à qual se deverá dar especial atenção quando se trata da avaliação do estado nutricional nesta faixa etária.
Traduction - portugais The current methods for evaluation of nutritional status in elderly people, are made too late and are not very sensitive in identifying malnutrition, given that a significant percentage of individuals in this age group suffer from this problem. The aim of this study was to evaluate markers of nutrition that could be more sensitive, reproducible and identifying information of malnutrition in the elderly. We studied 42 hospitalized patients (≥ 65 years), and set up groups of nourished and malnourished people, according to BMI. We proceeded with the dosing of ghrelin, leptin and adiponectin serum, assessment of body mass index (BMI) and the determination of prealbumin, albumin and serum transferrin, establishing correlations between these values. The results showed the existence of a strong association between leptin and BMI, as well as a significant difference between the circulating leptin when compared the nourished and malnutrition groups. In conclusion, it may be said that only leptin showed promising results and to which one should be given special attention when it comes to the evaluation of nutritional status in this age group.

Working in the translation industry since 2004, translation is one of my passions. The research, among other aspects of the translation, is the most enjoyable part of this science.

I've been providing translation services for this business sector since 2010 increasing thus the passion I have about travelling and history. I'm also very lucky to work for some of the biggest cruising operators in the world as well as the biggest OTAs.
