I’m an English to French/French to English translator based
in Toronto, Canada, with extensive professional translation experience in a
wide variety of fields ranging from post-secondary education to international
development to visual art to government/social policy to market research, among
others.
I have translated organizational reports, booklets, website
pages, factsheets, newsletters, brochures, general assembly minutes, presentations,
graphs, charts, e-mails, social media posts, peer-reviewed academic journal
articles, transcripts of academic conferences, market research qualitative
responses and surveys, and government social policy reports and surveys.
All of that accumulated experience has allowed me to acquire various skills and
techniques to produce superlative translations, such as outstanding attention
to detail, accuracy, and creative problem-solving skills, as well as the
ability to carry across in my translations the full range of meaning, nuances,
and context in the source text, while maintaining its voice and tone.
I’m also adept at using various CAT tools such as translation memory
software, online terminological databases and reference works, external
translation memories and databases, and various field-specific resources to
successfully resolve translation/terminological issues.
Having grown up in Paris and Toronto, I have native fluency in French
and English. I have also lived in Quebec and worked on multiple projects aimed
at the Quebec market.
My BA is in French Literature from the University of Toronto, with an A
average in my final year. I also completed the Professional Preparatory Year of
the École Supérieure d’Interprètes et de Traducteurs, Université de
Paris III—Sorbonne Nouvelle, reputed to be the best translation school in
the world. I’m currently in the last stages of the MA program in Translation
Studies at Glendon College, York University, with an overall A+ average.
Lastly, I’m a published academic writer and poet, with a small article
published in a prestigious, peer-reviewed journal, and poems published in the
most prominent Canadian literary journals.
This
combination of direct, relevant, professional translation experience in various
fields, the transferable skills and abilities acquired through my outstanding
education, my native English/French bilingualism, and my creative expertise as
a published writer/poet would be ideal for producing translations of the
highest order, within the agreed upon timeframes, that would meet and exceed
all of the client goals, and project a very desirable image of the client source
concept.
