Linguistique
bilingual teen novel
"C’est sûr qu’être le géant nouveau c’est pas top !” renchérit la jeune créole, imbue de son mauvais jeu de mots.
these two kids are thirteen-year old twins. The boy, Tom, has REPEATED A CLASS. They moved with their father to a new town, a new school. They're a little anxious about their first day of school, tomorrow. The girl, Graziella (a little pest), makes the comment above.
It apparently refers to a French commercial/pub. Unfortunately, I live in Canada, so I have no idea what it is. I imagine part of the pun is about him being the tallet in his class, since he repeated it. But aside from that, I'm stumped!
Can anyone who lives in France help me?
Mille merci!

français term (edited):
Йtre le gИant nouveau c▓est pas top
being the new golden oldie is not going to be a golden experience
géant means great and top also means great so the pun is in the contradiction between being the géant nouveau et ce n'est pas top

just an idea
D'apres Jean de La Fontaine, une personne dont on a peur mais qui n'est pas méchante.
Discussion
it turns out it's a reference to the Geant Vert (you know, the corn... le mais nouveau)... I had thought about that but the pun seemed bad in that respect. Oh well, I'll have to make do.
