Glossary entry (derived from question below)
français term or phrase:
étiquettes vs habillages
anglais translation:
labelling and (presentation) packaging
français term
étiquettes vs habillages
"Au sein de la Direction Achats & Développement, rattaché au Responsable du Pôle Produits Imprimés (étiquettes, cartons, coffrets, habillages etc.), au sein d'une équipe de 5 personnes..."
I'm not sure how to differentiate between "étiquettes" (labels) and habillages (labeling & presentation?) Just "presentation" or is there a more technical word?
Thanks for any input!

Non-PRO (1): writeaway
When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.
How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:
An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)
A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).
Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.
When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.
* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

My suggestion was selected based on peer agreement - thanks, folks! - but I have made a glossary entry based on Helen's answer, which frankly I think was the best solution here.

: the label is really part of the habillage. Trade dress is another term

Thanks. Not familiar with "trade dress" though. One learns something every day on Proz ;o)

: generally, the bottle benefits from both "habillage" and "emballage" // It's just that I think "habillage" excludes the "carton" - that's "emballage"

Not sure what you mean there, Sheila : "habillage" is "packaging", both in marketing dictionaries and in practice

: I tend to agree with Sheila, habillage does not include the box, but everything that "dresses up" the bottle. So includes the bottle label, as well as the neck neck label, sometimes a decorative sheath over the bottle, etc.

Thanks - I would go along with the point about the label, but the source text appears to distinguish between the label(s) and packaging

Helen Shiner
: Actually, I see quite a few instances of the use of the term,'presentation packaging', presumably to distinguish from plain old packaging.

labels and dressing

DRESSING THE BOTTLES.
Some semi-automatic labelers will apply front, back and neck labels. The neck label is a subtle item of BOTTLE DRESSING in that it hides the somewhat variable level of wine in the bottle neck, resulting from the variable amount of wine lost in the disgorging process. Generally, the simple manual labellers will not apply a neck label.
Most people find that creasing and folding the hood is tedious, and prefer to use a pneumatic twin head hood crimper. Alternatively if you are an ardent traditionalist, we recommend that you tie the cork down with suitable string rather than the wire muselet, and wax the cork and neck for that genuine 18th Century appearance.
Speaking of ardent traditionalists, we note that the Champagne Sword is also making a come-back. We recommend the use of the Sword to those sparkling wine drinkers who are too impatient for the tedium of unpeeling the hood, untwisting the muselet and easing out the cork. Please note that unfortunately we do not offer Champagne Sword User Insurance.

Perfection in a package
WinePress Presents Luxury Wine & Beverage Presentation Cartons
Hand crafted and tailor made packaging solutions for a variety of applications
Cast your mind back to when you were a child, the thrill and anticipation of receiving a birthday gift or a Christmas present, or even a modest parcel through the post. The tactile pleasure involved in simply toying with the bow or running your hands over the shiny wrapping paper, the child-like joy at uncovering the hidden treasure within…back then what was on the outside incited rapturous glee and a heady anticipation of what was to follow…
Fortunately we never quite outgrow this particular type of excitement and savouring the promise of the hidden treasure is almost always more titillating than uncovering the trophy within. We may be young or old, the reward store bought and sophisticated or hand made with love, but there’s nothing to quite beat the allure of a really appealing package…it’s the very first step in the journey of discovery and a feast for the senses.
