arbitrage d’avoirs disponibles

Hi all,

This (large) company are issuing shares to members of their pension/savings scheme. The expression I'm not sure about is "arbitrage d'avoirs disponibles..."

Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
David

arbitrage of available/disposable assets

"Arbitration" is not correct, being a method of dispute resolution

What is 'Arbitrage'?

Arbitrage is the simultaneous purchase and sale of an asset to profit from a difference in the price. It is a trade that profits by exploiting the price differences of identical or similar financial instruments on different markets or in different forms. Arbitrage exists as a result of market inefficiencies.

agree Daryo : although it's not very clear what is subjected to arbitrage in this ST

I think it means the company's realisable assets - presumably they have fluctuating market prices whatever they are (precious metals?)
disagree Francois Boye : disposable assets have roughly the same returns. So what's the point of using the financial concept of arbitrage?//it is incorrect to think that 'arbitrage' has no meaning but financial: http://www.cnrtl.fr/definition/arbitrage

I think you would need to ask the writer of the document - he/she clearly refers to arbitrage

disagree Daryo : They may sound very similar, but "arbitration" and "arbitrage" are completely different beasts, from two different habitats....

reallocation of liquid assets

Arbitrage

Reallocation allows you to maintain a portfolio that’s tailored to your needs and reflects prevailing market conditions. [...]
Allocating investments is the process of deciding which percentage of your retirement savings you’ll place into each investing asset class. [...]
Because there are so many variables that are constantly shifting, portfolio reallocation is as important as any part of your retirement investing strategy.

disagree nigel45 : allocation of available assets.

trade-off among disposable assets

http://voxeu.org/article/trade-between-efficiency-and-equity

Note added at 5 hrs (2017-06-05 22:29:31 GMT)
--------------------------------------------------

trade-off means in economics that limited resources must be allocated among several assets. As a result, all assets cannot increase at the same time; there is a trade-off among them.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Daryo : Can't see how you could justify making the (il)logical jump from "trade-off between properties / characteristics of one and same group of assets" [in your ref.] to a "trade-off between assets"???

you cannot increase the share of all disposable assets at the same time!
neutral AllegroTrans : cannot see how arbitrage becomes trade-off

you cannot increase the share of all disposable assets at the same time!
agree Adam Warren : trade-off is perfectlfy legitimate; the English term "arbitrage" does not apply here, having a highly specialised meaning.
