agree with Marie Asker needs to close the question - impossible to give any reliable suggestion
Marie Jackson Oct 13, 2012:
@cc in nyc Thanks for backing me up on this one!

"agree" with Marie Ditto
Marie Jackson Oct 13, 2012:
I really think you can only guess wildly as to what the original actually said. You need to speak to the client and check. I've told you what my guess would be but when you're working from what appears to be an MT you just cannot be sure - you'd be doing a disservice to the client not to check with them first. Otherwise you're just translating very literally and hoping that the machine got the rest of it right, which will result in something very sloppy.

Isn't "email compte" just "email account"?

que je reçois sur mon compte Europe Online à un autre compte email ? europeonline.comeuropeonline.com Can I have my Europe Online e-mails forwarded to my regular e-mail account?
AllegroTrans Oct 12, 2012:
You need to ask the client
Marie Jackson Oct 12, 2012:
I believe if you have a look at one of my comments posted earlier (my computer says it was at 17:42), that was essentially what I originally suggested; you would just need to substitute "Interco Helpdesk" with "intercompany helpdesk/Helpdesk". "E-mail account function" does not sound natural at all if all the text means is that notification should be sent by email - it would be a very literal translation.
literary (asker) Oct 12, 2012:
I now see it as:
each address modification must be advised to the e-mail account function of the Intercompany Helpdesk
???

Marie Jackson Oct 12, 2012:
Unfortunately that doesn't shed much light on whatever "compte-function" is meant to be. Is it not possible to get hold of the original?

Marie Jackson Oct 12, 2012:
Agreed!
philgoddard Oct 12, 2012:
If this is computer translation, I don't think any of us will be out of a job for a while! "Function" could be "fonction", ie "job title", but the text is so garbled as to be meaningless, and there's not much point speculating.
Marie Jackson Oct 12, 2012:
In that case... a back translation might be useful. I would guess that notification of a change of (billing?) address must be ADDRESSED to the Interco Helpdesk by email... but without seeing the ST it's almost impossible to know for sure; it may even be the case that the "compte" is part of an adverbial phrase in the ST that is missing in the TT. The English is not any good as it is, though.
literary (asker) Oct 12, 2012:
I only have this text in English.
Marie Jackson Oct 12, 2012:
Hmmm Is this the source text as it came to you or do you have an entirely French original you could share with us? The English doesn't make a lot of sense right now and the ST could shed some light on what the compte-fonction is.

I've briefly read the discussion and if you can't get back to the client, maybe you could put this in
Something went wrong...
