I am interested in knowing what the different certifications that are available, especially if there is one for Technology/Engineering.
I would also like to locate people that are interested in working as simultaneous translator for a Technology congress in Montevideo Uruguay.

Hello,

I can only speak about the programs offered in the U.S., which provide certification in the interpretation field (in general, not specialized unfortunately). As far as working for the court system, the candidate must pass an oral and, I believe, also a written exam, since court interpreters often have to translate written documents) offered by the federal government or the state (some states have their own Legal Interpreting certification procedures in addition to the federal govt.'s exam in order to qualify as a Court interpreter for that state).

Most of the requests for interpretation assignments I've seen ask for a simultaneous interpreter, yet some do request consecutive or escort interpreters.

ProZ has now compiled a list of organizations who offer this type of training in different countries:

Good luck!

Belkis
