Texte source - anglais Emerging from over a decade of civil strife and economic instability Burundi is poised to regain a foothold in its ascent as a significant player in global coffee markets. Only now, these markets have radically changed. They are increasingly differentiated and increasingly competitive. They require broad based market intelligence and buyer relationships, an obsessive focus on quality production and processing, and a fully liberalized policy and regulatory environment.
Vision, strategic thinking and technical know-how are all needed to catapult Burundi coffee to a place of market prominence. Three underlying truths will all but guarantee that Burundi coffee will succeed in this pursuit: the country’s East African highland agro-ecology is perfectly suited to produce one of the finest coffees in the world, it possesses a well-developed infrastructure for coffee processing, and it has mustered the collective will among public and private stakeholders to complete the institutional transformation necessary to realize this great potential.
