Any Cat Tool can now be combined with AT Jun 30, 2017

Nowadays any Cat Tool can be combined with one or more AT and this might prove to be very worthwhile in certain aspects.

Nowadays any Cat Tool can be combined with one or more AT and this might prove to be worthless and harmful in all respects.

If an agency specifies that it provides PEMT (Post-Editing Machine Translation), this is an indication that the agency is either unprofessional or practices predatory pricing at the expense of its vendors. Editing machine translation is almost as time-consuming as working on a completely human translation. The quality of the resulting text is almost invariably poor.

I do not agree with you but I respect your ideas Jul 25, 2017

Times are changing and the translation industry is changing along. Now there is a great variety of translations because of the ongoing globalisations and sometimes the market prefers to pay half the price for a fairly poor-quality translation instead of a full price for a top quality translation. Times are changing and the translation industry is changing along. Now there is a great variety of translations because of the ongoing globalisations and sometimes the market prefers to pay half the price for a fairly poor-quality translation instead of a full price for a top quality translation. Sometimes a top-quality translation is not needed and Post Editing can offer that translation for half the price and half the time needed for translating it. The problem is that you as an Agency, you cannot offer a poor quality translation for a top-quality rate. And you as a customer, you will not be willing to pay top-rates for a poor quality translations. This is obvious!
But you should bear in mind that nowadays there are sectors where Post Editing is preferred to a top-quality translation.
Every actor in the translation industry has to play its role and no one should try to cheat anybody.
But PE is a reality that the translator of the new millennium cannot ignore any longer, whether you like it or not!
Cheers

Plugins are the way Jul 28, 2017

Hi,
Nowadays you can combine MT & TM via plugins. When I started doing it (some 15 years ago) you exported unknown segments to a TMX file, translated that file with machine translation, and then imported the file back into your TM. With plugins (at least with memoQ & Trados) the MT proposal is presented in your working environment and you can either accept it, modify it or reject it.
