@ Asker When we ask for context, it also helps to say whether French, Begian or Canadian origin. That does give a lot of clues as to what is actually intended.
philgoddard Mar 18, 2022:
The O could be ordonnance. But we're all just guessing.
Gabrielle Leyden Mar 18, 2022:
context OK, now I see you have given a tiny bit of context, so "Other Alternative Treatment" is a possibility if the abbreviation is already in English. Can't you get back to the doctor/hospital that generated the report?
Conor McAuley Mar 18, 2022:
Same principle applies, context before and after the problematic term.
William Boletta (asker) Mar 18, 2022:
More on Oat Oat is always followed by the name of a drug or a vitamin supplement or some other remedy. So maybe it means what is prescribed for the ailment involved.

I'm no specialist, but like basic context, please.

No context to indicate what it might be.

Thank you for choosing this offering but if it was French to English then you should ask why this particular abbreviation was in English!
Note from asker:
The source doc was from Canada. They apparently use English and French interchangeably in medical language. That’s the source of confusion.

neutral philgoddard : It's good that you gave this a 1, and I don't believe it's the answer.

It was tongue in cheek, thinking it might lead somewhere.

OAT

OATs is the abbreviation of:
Drug transport by Organic Anion Transporters (OATs) - https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22841915/
Organic anion transporters (OATs) are the secondary/tertiary active transporter proteins that regulate anion balance in the body. - https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/pharmacology-toxicology...
Many OATs occur in renal proximal tubules - 1st link
Exceptions are murine Oat6 (nasal epithelium), human OAT7 (liver), and rat Oat8 (renal collecting ducts). In human kidneys, OAT1, OAT2, and OAT3 are localized in the basolateral membrane, and OAT4, OAT10, and URAT1 in the apical cell membrane of proximal tubule cells, respectively. - idem

neutral philgoddard : I don't see how this could fit the context.

Oligo Asthéno Tératospermie
