Hi,
What is a "pacemaker sentinelle"?
Thanks
Joanna

demand pacemaker
Yes, that's how I understand the definitions as well: a pacemaker sentinelle only fires when there is no spontaneous action, and that is "on demand".

In response to Phil's request:

I - DEFINITION.

The majority of pacemakers are DEMAND pacemakers. This means that they only pace ON DEMAND (e.g. when the heart rate is less than 60). To achieve this, the pacemaker has two functions – PACE or INHIBIT.

The settings of the pacemaker can be programmed to suit the patient's needs. A "demand" pacemaker will only kick in when the heart's own rate drops below a certain level. A "fixed rate" pacemaker will emit an impulse at a fixed rate, regardless of any external circumstances. These are the most commonly used types.

Thanks for reminding me that even if references are available at the most feeble effort to anyone who wants to know, they should still be included in a proposed answer :-)

: I don't understand how "sentinelle" becomes "VVI pacing". Your second reference appears to be a translation from French.
