I think that though this would mean that the job is paid by the hour, it is possible to be paid by the hour on a contract that is not hours-based. In the case of a yoga teacher, "emploi à l'heure" means that if a session overruns, the period in excess of the agreed hours would not be paid.

As noted in my comment to Daryo, given the extra context now supplied by the Asker, it could be translated as "hours-based work" or "work on an hourly basis".

Neutre  Helene Tammik: I see where you're coming from, but in the context of this question, I think it's the opposite - I read it as 'jobs where there is explicitly no contract', and the service provider is paid based on the number of hours there is any work for them

  -> A job "where there is explicitly no contract" is one for which you explicitly needn't expect to get paid! When I was a kid, it was my contract-free and unpaid job to feed the dog and take him for walks.
Accord  Daryo: sounds a bit formal - but definitely correct // a "contract" doesn't need to be in written form - there is always a "contract" even if it's an implied one.- In the context of this ST there definitely IS a contract with the client through the website.
