Texte source - anglais Why did you make the decision ision to set up a clinic in the Dominican Republic?
Ans: For the last several years, our clinics in Miami have attended to many Dominican patients. All of them told us that there were so many patients who would be helped by our program if only we had a presence in the Dominican Republic and so we started the process of opening our clinic in your country.
2) How would you define this new health center?
Ans: Dr.G’s of Santo Domingo is a center devoted to the health and wellness of all of our patients. We offer a comprehensive, physician supervised program that results in our patients losing weight and living a healthier lifestyle.
3) Besides Miami and the Dominican Republic, are you planning to expand your services to other countries.
Ans: Yes. We already have clinics in Australia, Honduras, El Salvador and Panama, and will soon open centers in Mexico. In the near future we hope to expand into other South American countries, and for the future, our expansion goals are limitless. The more centers we open, the more countries we expand into… the greater impact we will have on our patients lives.
4) What do you offer your patients in your clinics?
ANS: We offer a physician supervised individualized weight loss and wellness program. It’s a system in which patients are given our unique medications and supplements to help patients reduce their appetite, reduce the craving for carbs and sugars, reduce eating associated with anxiety and improve portion control. In addition, the medications increase the patients’ metabolism, thus allowing them to burn what they do eat more effectively. Eat less, burn more, lose weight!! But our program offers so much more. Our goal is to give patients the tools, including our medications and supplements, our exercise and nutritional counseling and individualized menu plans, to help them to both achieve success and maintain that success by becoming slimmer, healthier and happier. We have done this for over 100,000 patients throughout the world, and we are thrilled to be able to now serve the Dominican community.
5) What do you recommend to patients who suffer from obesity?
ANS: We tell all of our patients who suffer from obesity that we recognize how complex the problem of obesity is, and that’s why it is so important to be treated by well trained dedicated physicians such as are found at Dr.G’s. We recommend therefore that patients follow our program diligently as well as follow up in our office on a regular basis. We know that whatever the cause of their obesity… whether caused by eating too much or a slow metabolism, we can help them not only lose the weight but also keep it off. We tell them the process is challenging, but we will always be with them every step of the way. We tell them “never give up..never give up..never give up”.
6) How would you define obesity?
ANS: There are several ways to define Obesity. Two measures that are commonly used are BMI and Body Fat percentage. BMI is a calculation that is obtained by dividing a person’s weight in kilograms by the square of the persons height in meters. A BMI over 30 is considered obese. For a variety of reason the BMI can often be misleading, and a more direct measure of obesity utilizes the patient’s body fat percentage. In our center we measure the body fat % using a special instrument called a bioelectric impedance unit. The generally accepted cut off points using body fat % is 25% for men and 30% for women. Our goal, our mission, is to help patients lose this unwanted fat and maintain a healthy weight and healthy lifestyle.
7) What makes this new way of losing weight successful?
ANS: There are many elements to our program that helps our patients be successful. The supervision of our doctors and staff, the individualization of our therapy utilizing our patented Herbaceutical Formulations, and the comprehensive nature of our program that includes exercise and nutritional instruction as well as stressing to our patients the importance of losing weight in the context of how they live… eating real, food with their family and friends, at home and in restaurants, rather than unrealistic prepackaged boxed foods, allows our patients to not only lose the weight but maintain their weight loss too as well.
8) Are you familiar with obesity statistics in the Dominican Republic?
ANS: The last published obesity rates in the Dominican Republic, based on BMI over 30, are 18% for females and 13% for men. This is equal to about 900,000 women and 500,000 men. In addition, of course are many more people who are significantly overweight (defined as a BMI over 24). And finally there are those who are just a little overweight, but are finding it so difficult to get back into their old jeans. So from these statistics one can see that the problem of obesity in the Dominican Republic is a significant one, not unlike that in the US. And, because of the individualization of our system, we have a program to suit everyone’s needs.
9) Who uses more this weight loss method, men or women?
ANS: As in most weight loss programs, women use our method more than men. About 75% women and 25% men.
10) What satisfaction do you get from having a patient reach his(or her) ideal weight?
ANS: Tremendous satisfaction, not only because even a small amount of weight loss (10% of initial body weight) leads to significant medical advantages including decreases in Diabetes and Hypertension, and many other co morbidities associated with obesity. But in addition to the effect on medical issues, the tremendous increase in self-esteem that we see in patients who have reached their goal is just unbelievable, and so rewarding. As an obstetrician gynecologist, I never thought I would get so much satisfaction as I got from bringing new life into the world, but I can honestly say that helping so many people lose weight, improve their self-esteem, and lead healthier, happier lives, has also given me great satisfaction.
11) Any anecdote you would like to share about it?
ANS: There are so many stories of patient success, it is difficult to choose only one. But recently I took care of a young lady who was in high school. She had always been overweight and her parents had taken her to numerous doctors and nutritionist to help her, to no avail. She was a good student, but had few friends and was constantly ridiculed because of her weight. When she came to us, she was 5’3’ tall and weighed 220 pounds (100kg). In 8 months on our program, she lost 95 pounds and is currently 125 pounds (56kg). She is exercising on a regular basis, eating in a very healthy manner and is now on our maintenance program. But best of all, her mother described her transformation to me as like a flower who has blossomed. This mom was so happy and proud as she showed me photos of her daughter beautifully dressed to go to her Prom.
Another story is of a woman who is from the Dominican Republic. Several months ago, she shared with me how much her life has changed as a result of Dr.G’s treatment. In her words “ the sky seems a little bluer” and “the sun seems a little brighter.” These are the kind of changes in people’s lives that continue to give all of us at Dr.G’s such great satisfaction.
12) How is Dr.G personally?
ANS: I am very well, and I am so excited to open the first Dr.G’s in the Dominican Republic. I am so gratified at the wonderful reception we have gotten from the wonderful, friendly people of the DR, and we hope to be able to help many Dominicans achieve their goals. We are also determined to become part of the fabric of the community so we can give back to those in need.
13) What do you dream of? Who do you admire?
ANS: I am answering these 2 questions together, as the answer to the second relates to the first. I have always admired Robert F. Kennedy, for it is he who said” Some people see things that are, and ask why… I dream things that never were, and ask why not. And so I dream of a better healthier life for all mankind, and dream that someday Dr.G’s will be helping people from all around the world.
14) A medical career is a very serious thing, do you take life very seriously like in your profession or being in a good mood, how it is perceived in pictures, one of your qualities?
ANS: Throughout my career, for the most part as an ObGyn, I have always looked relaxed and in a good mood, even though deep inside I was very focused and quite serious. I think this has been a very positive way to appear, as my patients always felt comfortable around me and had faith in my judgment, even through difficult times. This demeanor has carried over to my weight loss practice as well, and I believe is one of the reasons that my patients have such confidence in me and our team at Dr.G’s. And certainly, away from the office, I believe the photos of me really do convey the “real me”, as I enjoy life with my family and friends.
15) How would you define your profession?
ANS: I look at the practice of medicine as not so much a profession, but as a calling… a calling to help heal those who are sick, and in need of my care. Whether it be in the diagnosis of breast, cancer, as in my previous career, or helping someone to lose their excessive weight, as I currently have done in my position as founder of Dr.G’s, helping and healing have always been my passion.
16) Success is… ultimately being the best husband and father I can be. You always want to feel that you have made an impact on patients’ and friends lives, but in the end, if I have done my best for my family and leave them a legacy they can be proud of… that will define for me having had a successful life.
17) My profession is… and has always been …my calling. I cannot think of anything I would rather do. I consider myself so fortunate that I am able to practice a profession that I love so much.

20) A person you admire is…Bill Gates… for not only changing the world as we know it, but also because of his continued humanitarian efforts throughout the globe.

1) Por qué tomó la decisión de establecer una clínica en la República Dominicana?
RESP.: En los últimos años, nuestras clínicas en Miami han recibido varios pacientes dominicanos. Todos ellos nos relataban del sinnúmero de pacientes que podríamos ayudar mediante nuestro programa si tan sólo contáramos con presencia en R.D. y así inició nuestro proceso de abrir una clínica en su país.
2) Cómo definiría Ud. este nuevo Centro de Salud?
RESP.: Dr. G’s de Santo Domingo es un centro dedicado a la salud y bienestar de todos nuestros pacientes. Allí ofrecemos un programa exhaustivo, el cual se desarrolla bajo supervisión médica, y da como resultado la pérdida de peso de nuestros pacientes y su adopción de un estilo de vida más saludable.
3) Aparte de Miami y la República Dominicana, planea Ud. expandir sus servicios hacia otros destinos?
RESP.: Si. Ya contamos con clínicas que operan en Australia, Honduras, El Salvador, Panamá, y próximamente estaremos inaugurando centros en Méjico. En el futuro cercano, tenemos esperanza de continuar expandiéndonos en otros países sudamericanos, y para el futuro a largo plazo, nuestras metas de expansión son infinitas. Mientras más centros inauguremos, mayor será el impacto en la vida de nuestros pacientes.
4) Qué le ofrecen a sus pacientes en sus clínicas?
RESP.: Les ofrecemos un programa de pérdida de peso bajo supervisión médica a la vez que un programa de bienestar. Es un sistema mediante el cual los pacientes ingieren nuestros medicamentos patentizados conjuntamente con suplementos para ayudarles a reducir su apetito, reducir los antojos, reducir la ansiedad general y por comer azúcares, así como mejorar el control de porciones. Además, los medicamentos incrementan el metabolismo del paciente permitiéndole quemar más efectivamente la ingesta. Comer menos, quemas más, perder peso!! Pero nuestro programa no sólo se limita a ese fin, sino que ofrece mucho más. Nuestra meta es brindarle las herramientas a los pacientes, incluyendo nuestros medicamentos y suplementos, nuestro plan de ejercicios y orientación nutricional así como nuestros planes individualizados de alimentación, para ayudarles a alcanzar el éxito y mantener ese éxito al convertirse en personas más saludables, esbeltas y felices. Hemos logrado esto con más de 100,000 pacientes a nivel mundial, y estamos felices de poder ser un aliado en la República Dominicana.
5) Qué le recomiendan a pacientes que padecen de obesidad?
RESP.: Le decimos a todos nuestros pacientes que padecen de obesidad, que reconocemos lo complejo que es este problema, y el por qué es tan importante ser atendido por médicos debidamente capacitados, como el equipo de Dr. G’s. Les recomendamos por ende a todos los pacientes que sigan nuestro programa de manera diligente así como el seguimiento programado por nuestra clínica. Sabemos que cual sea la causa de su obesidad, ya sea debido a comer de más o un metabolismo lento, podemos ayudarles no solo a perder peso sino también a no engordar de nuevo. Les decimos que es un proceso desafiante, pero que siempre estaremos de su lado en todo momento del proceso. Les decimos “No te rindas.. no te rindas… nunca te rindas”.
6) Cómo define Ud. la obesidad?
RESP.: Existen diferentes formas de definir la obesidad. Dos medidas que se usan comúnmente lo son el IMC (Índice de Masa Corporal) y Porcentaje de Grasa Corporal. El IMC (*conocido por sus siglas en inglés BMI) es el cálculo obtenido al dividir el peso de una persona en kilogramos por la altura de la persona en metros. Un IMC por encima de 30 es considerado obeso. Por varias razones, el IMC puede ser engañoso, y una medida más directa de la obesidad lo es utilizar el porcentaje de grasa corporal del paciente. En nuestro centro medimos el porcentaje (%) de grasa corporal utilizando un instrumento especial llamado Unidad de Impedancia Bioeléctrica. Los puntos de corte graso generalmente aceptados usando el porcentaje de grasa corporal lo son 25% en los hombres y 30% en las mujeres. Nuestra meta, nuestra misión, lo es ayudar a los pacientes a perder toda esta grasa no deseada y mantener un estilo de vida saludable.
7) Qué es lo que hace que este método sea exitoso?
RESP.: Existen varios elementos dentro de nuestro programa que ayudan al paciente a alcanzar el éxito. La supervisión de nuestro equipo médico, la individualización de nuestra terapia utilizando nuestras Formulaciones Herbacéuticas, y la naturaleza exhaustiva de nuestro programa, el cual abarca ejercicio e instrucción nutricional también como exhortarles a nuestros pacientes acerca de la importancia de perder peso dentro del contexto de su diario vivir… comiendo comida verdadera, con sus familiares y amigos, en casa y en restaurantes, en vez de esos paquetes de comidas pre-empacadas que no son nada realistas, lo que le permite a nuestros pacientes no solamente perder el peso, pero mantenerse sin volver a engordar.
8) Está Ud. familiarizado con las estadísticas de obesidad en la República Dominicana?
RESP.: Las últimas estadísticas de obesidad de la República Dominicana que fueron publicadas basadas en un IMC superior a 30, eran de 18% en mujeres y 13% en hombres. Además, por supuesto, hay personas con un sobrepeso significativo (definido por un IMC superior a 24). Y finalmente existen aquellos que están ligeramente sobrepeso, pero encuentran dificultad volver a caber en unos jeans viejos. Así que partiendo de estas estadísticas, se puede observar que el problema de obesidad en R.D es significativo, y no se diferencia del que hay en los EE.UU. Y, debido a la individualización de nuestro sistema, tenemos un programa adaptado a la necesidad de todos.
9) Quiénes usan más este método de pérdida de peso, Hombres o Mujeres?
RESP.: Como en la mayoría de los programas de pérdida de peso, las mujeres se valen de este tratamiento más que los hombres. Alrededor de un 75% de nuestra clientela son mujeres y el 25% son hombres.
10) Qué satisfacción obtiene al ver como un paciente alcanza su peso ideal (él/ella)?
RESP.: Una satisfacción enorme, no solamente el alcanzar un porcentaje mínimo del peso a perder (10% del peso corporal inicial) lleva a una serie de ventas médicas importantes, incluyendo un decrecimiento en diabetes e hipertensión, y una serie de morbilidades asociadas con la obesidad. Pero conjuntamente con el efecto causado en el aspecto medico, el aumento increíble de autoestima que vemos en nuestros pacientes que han alcanzado su meta es simplemente increíble, y tan beneficioso. Como gineco-obstetra, nunca pensé que hallaría tanta satisfacción como la que obtengo al traer una vida al mundo, pero honestamente puedo decir que ayudar a tantos pacientes a perder peso, mejorar su autoestima, y a llevar un estilo de vida más saludable, y verlos sentirse felices, también me ha traído una satisfacción incalculable.
11) Tiene alguna anécdota que quisiera compartir?
RESP.: Existen tantas historias de éxitos logrados por los pacientes, que es difícil escoger una historia particular. Pero recientemente recibí una joven paciente que estaba en bachillerato. Ella siempre había estado sobrepeso, y sus padres la habían llevado a consultar con un sinnúmero de doctores y nutricionistas para ayudarla, sin logro alguno. Ella era buena estudiante, pero tenía pocos amigos y era constantemente burlada por el tema de su peso. Cuando vino donde nosotros la primera vez, medía 5’3” y pesaba 220 libras (100kilos). En 8 meses con nuestro tratamiento, bajó 95 libras y se encuentra actualmente pesando 125 libas (125kg). Está haciendo ejercicio de manera regular, comiendo muy saludable, y está actualmente en la etapa de bienestar de nuestro programa. Pero lo mejor de todo ha sido como su madre me ha descrito su transformación; como un oruga que se transformó en mariposa. Su madre estaba tan feliz y se sentía tan orgullosa según me mostraba fotos de su hija hermosamente vestida para ir a su Baile de graduación.
Otra historia, lo es la de una paciente de la República Dominicana. Hace varios meses atrás, compartió conmigo la historia de cómo su vida ha cambiado como resultado del tratamiento hecho en Dr. G’s. En sus propias palabras “el cielo luce más azul” y “el sol brilla más”. Estos son los tipos de cambios en la vida de los pacientes que continúa dándonos esa gran satisfacción como equipo en Dr. G’s.
12) Cómo es el Dr. G personalmente?
RESP.: Estoy muy bien, y estoy muy emocionado de inaugurar el primer Dr. G’s en Republica Dominicana. Me siento tan agradecido de la cálida recepción que hemos recibido por parte del público tan maravilloso, y amistoso de R.D, y esperamos poder ayudar a muchos dominicanos a alcanzar su meta. También estamos determinado en formar parte de la comunidad, y poder devolverle de alguna forma a aquellos con mayor necesidad.
13) Con qué sueña Usted? A quién admira?
RESP.: Estoy respondiendo estas 2 preguntas conjuntamente, ya que la respuesta de la segunda se relaciona con la primera. Siempre he admirado a John F. Kennedy, pues fue él quien dijo: “Algunas personas ven las cosas por lo que son, y pregunto… Yo sueño con cosas que nunca han sido, y me pregunto por qué no”. Y así yo sueño de una vida mejor para toda la humanidad, y sueño además que algún día, Dr.G’s estará ayudando a nivel mundial.
14) Una carrera médica, es un asunto muy serio, toma Ud. la vida tan en serio como su profesión o es estar de buen humor, como se percibe en todas las fotos, una de sus cualidades.
RESP.: A todo lo largo de mi ejercicio profesional, en la mayor parte de mi trayectoria como Gineco-obstetra, siempre he lucido muy relajado y de buen humor, aunque por dentro siempre estuviese muy enfocado y en serio. Creo que esta siempre ha sido la forma más positiva de verme, ya que mis pacientes siempre se han sentido cómodos conmigo y han tenido fé en mi criterio, aún en momento difíciles. Es esta conducta también ha resultado en mi consulta con los pacientes del programa de pérdida de peso también, y creo que es una de las principales razones por las cuales mis pacientes se sienten en confianza conmigo y nuestro equipo en Dr. G’s. Ciertamente, cabe decir que también fuera de la oficina, creo que las fotos SI muestran al “verdadero yo”, y como disfruto de la vida con mi familia y amigos.
15) Cómo definiría su profesión?
RESP.: Veo el ejercicio medico no como una profesión, sino como una vocación… una vocación para ayudar a sanar a aquellos que padecen enfermedades, y necesitan de mi cuidado. Ya sea al diagnosticar un caso de cáncer de mama, una mastitis, como en mi carrera anterior, o ayudar a alguien a perder el sobrepeso excesivo, como ya he venido haciendo bajo mi posición de Fundador de Dr.G’s, ayudar y sanar siempre han sido mi pasión.
16) Cómo definiría Ud. el éxito?
El éxito es…. Ser el mejor esposo y padre que puedo ser. Siempre queremos sentir que hemos causado impacto en la vida de pacientes y amigos, pero al final del día, si me siento que he hecho lo mejor para y por mi familia y les dejo con un legado del cual sentirse orgullosos, eso se define para mí en que viví una vida de éxito.
17) Mi profesión es… y siempre ha sido… mi vocación. No puedo pensar en otra cosa que preferiría hacer. Me considero una persona muy afortunada de que puedo ejercer una profesión que amo tanto.
18) Un buen recuerdo lo es… ver el nacimiento de mis hijos.
19) Mi familia es…. Lo más importante de mi vida.
