traduction français vers anglais [PRO]
Medical - Sports / forme physique / loisirs
Terme ou expression en français : éducateur médico-sportif
Hello,
This profession is also known as Professeur d’activités physiques adaptées (APA).
You will find a very thorough description here:
https://www.profession-sport-loisirs.fr/sites/national/files...

Anyone know what this is called in English (US preferably)?

Thank you!

exercise physiologist
Explication :
I think this is a good equivalent.

Despite being called a "professeur" or "éducateur", this is a therapist working in a medical setting. And in French, "sport" doesn't necessarily mean sport - it can mean exercise. In my reference, a "salle de sport" is a fitness room, and "faire du sport" can mean "work out".

"Exercise physiologists analyze their patients’ fitness in order to help them improve their health or maintain good health. They help patients with heart disease and other chronic conditions, like diabetes or pulmonary (lung) disease, to regain their health. They also work with both amateur and professional athletes who are hoping to boost their performance."

This seems to fit the bill perfectly although I am not particularly fond of the word "physiologist". Many thanks!

sports therapist

Explication :
If the person is working in a multidisciplinary rehab context, then "sports therapist" may be a good choice of term.

You may prefer something a little more descriptive and I had first thought of something with "rehabilitation" or "remedial". I don't think that is quite such a good match as "sports therapist" in view of the description you have given as context.

There is no need to seek to translate the term "médico". The term "therapist" conveys both the educational and the medical notions.

Demandeur : Since I am targeting a US audience I am going to go with philgoddard's answer but I loved this and actually do prefer the term "therapist". Thank you for your idea!!

Neutre  philgoddard: I think this is close but, as I've said in my answer, "sport" in French can translate as "exercise".

-> Of course, but the favoured term for the UK seems to be "sports therapist". ;-)
