I've posted this on Click Clique as well, but does anyone know what's happened to LGDT? I haven't been able to use this gem of a translation tool for about a week.

Good afternoon Gillian,
It's not you, it's it! (Great English, Nikki!). I too have had problems with it recently. I have it bookmarked and it has been "down" rather too often. These oh-so-wonderful tools are generally down when you have to have the answer illico presto. That's the beauty of the what's on the web. Great when it's up and running and a pain when it's down. We all have ups and downs. Perhaps it's just human, after all?!

Comment: "Thanks Nikki - I was beginning to wonder if it was something I'd said or done ....!
I've even contacted the webmaster but have not received an answer yet.
I really do miss LGDT when it's not there (what did I do before I discovered it?!)"

Strange, I used it just yesterday
If you are a Mac User, you must use Netscape 6 to access LGDT...

Le Grand Dictionnaire Terminologique
It is a kind of trade name, so you would have to leave it in French as it is. It comes from and older tradition when Europe considered french as the language for culture and science. There are a few Grand Dictionnaire Terminologique on the web, now. That is probably why you had problems accesing it. I have had quite a few myself on and off . So now, I go via another portal such as Yahoo or Goggle to access it. Most times that sorts the matter out for me.
Try again and good luck Gillian !
If not hit on reply and I will search all the other ways I have been able to connect onto it.

Hi Gillian,
It's of course always nice to see askers grading the answers given, but don't you think this is a bit 'over the top'?
You grade someone '4' who just confirms your question: 'I don't know'?
I wouldn't bother to reply in normal circumstances, because after all 'nobody died', but as moderator for ProZ (certain language pairs)-and since nobody else did (yet)-, it's more or less my moral obligation to send a comment, when something doesn't seem to be 100 % correct (as we often get replies/emails from translators who express their disagreement with certain grades, etc).
Other than that, have a very nice week,

LGDT
Nikki's answer was neither incorrect nor unhelpful, and it was certainly not "I don't know." Gillian was not asking how to translate Le Grand etc. ... but rather why she was having so much trouble accessing it on the Web. It's quite true that LGDT is often down, as is Eurodicautom, both often on weekends. Both were down all weekend April 7-8, for example. The only explanation reason that I have ever heard is "maintenance." And in fact, we don't know, do we. It's just down.
Cheers, Pattie

On the matter of points
Yep, 4 is generous, nice, but generous. Never the less, questions do have to be graded otherwise reminder messages keep coming through. I recall having accidently under and overgraded answers in the past after a bit of button-happy fever. Once it's pressed, it's pressed. From time to time though I suppose it makes for a nice surprise and there is no real harm done!
Thanks for the present Gillian!
