Describing what happens when using an automatic paint dispensing machine. i'm not sure what calé means in this context.

I'd have to know what the machine actually does. "Calé" could also mean "queued up".

I found some sources, all related to printing:
This page defines "calage": http://www.couleurs-montagne.com/prepresse/lexique-imprimeri...

These two are French and English, and the translation is "calage = press setting":

My previous comment makes me think that your original has to do with printing, more than with paint mixing.
Note from asker:
It's something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlVIUKzhuXg/ You basically find a colour by name using a colour chart. The machine then makes the colour, adding the correct amount of each colourant to a base and makes your paint to dispense into a can. I'm not sure if queued up works here because it seems to be connected to it alerting the user of a possible colour problem.
It definitely involves software and a computer so maybe it could be queued up. Just not sure how it connects to the following sentence.

calibrated/adjusted

My understanding is that the components are mixed according to certain ratios to achieve the required shade. In water colors, the shades are not properly calibrated, possibly because of a difference in the density of the paint.
