When specifying the floor-to-ceiling height of a building, this term obviously refers to the "raw" physical height from the top surface of the concrete floor to the bottom surface of the next floor up. Or put another way, it's the floor-to-ceiling height discounting any false floors and ceilings.

As the "height between floors" is clearly defined from one floor to the next, we are looking to a term for this distance minus the slab thickness.
As "room height" and ceiling height can become confusing when there are false ceilings and false floors, I suggest to use "height between slabs" that appears rather popular (1980 G-hits between quotes)
This book also suggests "clear-story", but as I am French native and never saw this term previouysly, I will let better qualified persons validate this

: I'm afraid there is indeed a techncial term for this, and I fear this would be too open to ambiguity. And what if it were a multi-storey car park: 'room'?

Thanks Nathalie, but if you say 'floor to ceiling slab', it is not quite precise enough, since there could be 'floating/unbonded' surface!
