anglais vers français Technique / Génie Construction / génie civil
iron I-beam used in building construction

Discussion

kashew Jun 2, 2009:
bar is odd yes, iron I-beam too!
Tony M Jun 2, 2009:
Where does the 'bar' bit come in? 'I beam' on its own sounds fine — but where does the 'bar' come from, that sounds rather odd?

neutral Tony M : But is there not a special term used in construction, like there is RSJ in EN?

poutre IPN

I think this is a sta, ndard term used in construction — though I'm still worried about the 'bar', and exactly how the term is being used in the context.

For example, is this perhaps referring to the type of material used to make I-beams — I wouldn't have called that 'bar' myself, but who knows, without adequate context? It might be necessary to add something like 'profilé' to convey the same idea...
