no doubt a highly specialist term in its context, but in general "cros" means a hollow (Occitan version of "creux"). This might help you at least see what it's referring to, possibly trays or beds?

IOW 144 (a dozen dozens) sheets of A4.

A little Google research tells me not only that cros is a Picard deformatoin of gros but also that "gross" comes from the French term for 144, une grosse douzaine.

Otherwise, maybe it's something to do with Charles Cros who, when not wearing a Nimrod suit, was an early theoretician if not protagonist of 3-colour printing.
