A couple of questions for the full-timers: would you ever go back to part-time translation/interpreting again ? How many hours a week do you work? Regards

I am a freelance translator, whatever that means – full-time or overtime when I have assignments, part-time or even jobless when I happen to be ran out of tasks.

I wanted to vote 24/7 but the option was not available. BST, translation is all I've done for the past 30+ years - that's as full time as you can get.
Full-time - with qualification | Aug 11, 2015 |
I've started reducing my days to 6 hours instead of 8, but it probably averages more than that considering the extra time I put it when I'm up against a tight deadline. I've done quite a few all-nighters this year. That time doesn't include billing, working on my website, preparing documents for taxes, etc.

Though I'm starting to transition more to part-time. I've been really busy working on this translation app and we finally secured our first major client! With any luck, I'll be spending a lot less time translating ^_^

I was part-time until 2013, as I held in-house positions in other areas from 1990 to 2013. I was also full-time in-house from 2008 to 2011, and full-time (beginner, with about 2 to 4 hours of work per day only), and no other jobs, from 1986 to 1989. I intend to be a full-time translator now until I retire or die. Never work in-house again, never work in business management again, never have a boss ever again in my life... if I can.

I'm supposed to be on holiday right now, but have had to accept some urgent jobs for an art exhibition in September. I hate this laptop!

Do you know what 'karōshi' (過労死) means? 過労死 = death from overwork I didn't know this was one of those Japanese words like 'tatami' and 'yakuza' that have made their way into the English language. I hope you didn't confuse it with 'karaoke' or 'death from singing badly.' @Alexandra Buy desktop models. You can't take them on holiday with you.
