The Spanish forum is proud to announce the culmination of its very successful fourth literary contest.

This time we asked for "scary tales" with a limit of 99 words. The small masterpieces can be found in http://www.proz.com/topic/30624

Winner after a close voting session was "La volanta", beautifully written by Claudia Bagnardi.

The version copied below was translated by my partner Haydée (she2tango)

The Carriage (1)

It was a hundred- year old manor. As beautiful as it was ominous. Pregnant with silenced stories.

In the shed, the old carriage sleeps its sleep of oblivion.
"Don´t you ever ride it," Mother always insisted.

Defiant, Lucia had the carriage readied.
Warily and with throbbing temples, she held the reins and took the trail.

There, past and future merged in a repeated fateful ritual.

The elms closed in after their wake, as vassals ...or executioners?

Never again a trace of Lucia´s.
Just some mud on the wheels of the carriage, sitting smugly asleep in the shed.

Claudia Bagnardi

(1) small and stylish horse-drawn carriage)

Kind regards to all, and in particular to our Romanian friends who were finishing their first contest.

Enrique

It's about time... Apr 23, 2005

Congrats to the Spanish Forum for so many great stories!

Congrats to Claudia Bagnardi, winner for the second time!

Isn't it time to organize a similar contest here, in the Literature Forum, in English?

Maximum 99 words, sounds interesting....

The Spanish forum had a contest with a 70-words limit and two more with a 99-words limit. I definitely preferred the former.

To write a story within the limits of 70 words is a real challenge, but when you write something and start dropping words to reach this limit somehow the story improves, gets cleaner, more crispy....

Enrique

Free theme, up to 70 words Apr 25, 2005

I would suggest original literary creations with only two limitations:

a) The forum rules
b) Length up to 70 words (plus a tittle of up to 7 words)

Cheers!
Enrique
