That's right. The original format was actually from the U.K's "Pop Idol", but it became a hit show in the U.S.
I'm not sure if 超级男生/女生 has anything to do with it. American Idol is mainly looking for singing talent. I remember seeing some clips of a 超女 competition at the end stages. I didn't think it was anything pleasing to the ear. 
湖南卫视有个节目叫变形记，是把城里的teen跟陕西农村的纯朴少年互换一周，很好看的一个节目。在美国，不换小孩子，换spouse, 湖南卫视可能受了"Wife Swap"的启发。

That latter show sounds like an experiment of "The Prince and the Pauper".

Amazing Race不知起源于哪个国家？法国也有同样的节目，叫Pekin Express。差不多两个多星期前的那期节目，参加者到了一个地方，钻进出租车后，司机见他背着旅行包，觉得他是游客想跟他聊聊天，闲扯一下，那个男的不耐烦地跟司机嚷，something like we are not tourists. get your axx going.

Yes, "The Amazing Race" is a show I like. It gives you a glimpse into different countries and different cultures. For the same reason, I like "The Mole" too. Too bad the bulk of the seasons of these shows are not on DVD.

1976年“四、五运动”，人民群众自发在天安门广场悼念周总理，载于童怀周编的《天安门诗抄》中有这样一首诗：
周天风云浪翻飞,恩光冲空电波随.
来自五洲悲痛语,同汇四海波涛泪.
志壮气烈神洲急,名清高贵红岩威.
千年俊杰化英灵,古今中外汗青碑.
这首嵌字诗第一个字连起来就是：周恩来同志名千古。

這種詩相當於高考里的填空題﹐ 跟CROSSWORD游戲差不多﹐智力含量略低于日本的數讀。
具體到你引用的這一首﹐內容還是不錯的。
