I have Across Personal Edition v 4.00.0 SP2e_EN. I'm working on a translation of a powerpoint file, and the word count the agency gave me was somewhere around 1500. I couldn't find a word count function in Powerpoint itself, but when I fed it into Across, Across gives me a word count of around 1900. It certainly feels like its 1900 rather than 1500 with the time it's taking! I will ask the PM how he calculated the word count and discuss it with him before I submit my invoice.

Does anyone know how the Across word count calculates the word count? The only reason I can think of for the increased word count in Across is that there are a lot of small pictures within the slides which have also been copied across and I think Across may be counting them each as a word. There are no notes from the slides in Across as I took them out before I started as I was instructed not to translate them.

Don't know about Across, but

you can check the wordcount in PowerPoint in File>Properties>Statistics. I would expect the wordcount in Across to be somewhat smaller as CAT tools usually don't count numbers etc.

If Across counted the pictures, you must have about 400 pictures - that's a lot for only one presentation.

PowerPoint Word Count

In regards to the PowerPoint WordCount for 2007, you should be aware that it does not work correctly.
Look at the example under the link, it gives you an idea. Additionally, the same file in PPT 2003 has a lower Word Count than in 2007.
I was using Felix initially until I had all kinks worked out with across, but now I am using the across count, anbd I often veriy the count. So far no issues.
