Discussion

Dr Sue Levy (X) Mar 5, 2007:
@ Emile: This is NOT a diagnosis, however you may interpret it (have you studied psychiatry?). There is no mention of unipolar depression. Your glossary entry is quite misleading - one more to add to the bunch.
Catherine GUILLIAUMET Feb 27, 2007:
Dr Sue Levy (X) Feb 24, 2007:
It's not a diagnosis but part of the symptomatology

disagree Michael Barnett : The patient may indeed have a unipolar depression, but that is for the psychiatrist to decide. The source text simply describes some symptoms.

Well, the asker said it was the diagnosis. So that's what I was going on. She didn't say anything about symptoms. I'm not psychic, nor am I a psychiatrist although I have interpreted for them many times.
disagree Dr Sue Levy (X) : Sorry Liz but I'll have to disagree very strongly seeing that Asker has chosen this - "idées" are not diagnosis but symptoms - Asker is not a medical translator, hence the confusion

Fair enough. And I do see your point.

delirious, melancholic ideas

mélancoliforme doesn't seem to be a common word - I can't find dictionary entries, and there are only 140 ghits for it, but from the context of these it would appear that my suggestion would fit.

perhaps this would fit better:
ideas of a delerious, melacholic nature

sorry, that should be "ideas of a delirious, melancholic nature" of course

delusional, melancholy-like (or simply "sad") thoughts

Delirium is something else entirely.
These symptoms, not a diagnosis.
I like the term "thoughts" more than ideas.
