Those pods are a nutritional gem.
They get ground up into a flour.
If you eat just one cup of that flour,
it provides me with
over 100 percent of my daily iron,
over 30 percent of my magnesium
and over 30 percent of my potassium.
Yee-haw!
In my house I take that flour,
and I mix it with kiawe honey
and nut butter
to make a 100 percent local food bar.
Pies made with kiawe crust.
And I brew the pods
into a sparkling fizzy drink.
So we're only limited by our culinary
imaginations with this one.

La mer musicienne
La mer, c’est un paysage sonore qui varie au rythme des vagues. Sa pulsation s’harmonise aux battements du cœur, l’apaise ou l’exalte. Pourtant, des profondeurs abyssales à la surface, la mer émet une gamme de sons infiniment plus riches, inaudibles à l’oreille humaine. Des espèces marines qu’on a longtemps crues muettes, livrent aujourd’hui leurs secrets babillages aux micros des biologistes. Les crevettes cliquettent et les poissons chantent : certains ont un débit de mitraillette, d’autres roucoulent ou jacassent comme des oiseaux. Baleines et lamantins ont des chants modulés si proches de la voix humaine qu’ils sont probablement à l’origine du mythe de la sirène, au chant envoûtant, capable d’attirer le marin dans les flots.

The sea, a musician on its own
The sea is a musical scenery that swings along the rhythm of the waves. Our beating hearts follow the motion of the sea: sometimes it thrills us, sometimes it soothes us. Still, the sea produces richer sounds from the abysses to the surface that no human ear can perceive. Marine species we long thought were mute, are now giving their unrevealed babblings out to the biologists' microphones. Shrimps snap and fish vocalize: some pop at a pistol rate, others hum and hoot just like birds do. Whales and manatees produce a modulated song so similar to human voice that it probably gave birth to the mith of sirens and their charming songs that lured sailors to the deep sea.
