Texte source - français DaimlerChrysler est en processus de revitalisation de sa gamme depuis quelques années, lançant nombre de nouveaux modèles intéressants. Par contre, le segment des petites voitures était toujours mal représenté par la Dodge SX, une voiture devenue vraiment moins attrayante dans un segment hautement populaire et compétitif. L'année 2006 s'annonce donc importante chez Dodge avec l'introduction de la Caliber 2007, une nouvelle voiture compacte de production mondiale, destinée à rivaliser avec des véhicules tels que la Toyota Matrix, la Mazda3 Sport et la Ford Focus.
La Caliber 2007 se présente comme une petite familiale à hayon. Elle tranche radicalement sur le modèle qu'elle remplace en raison de sa configuration à cinq portes et, surtout, par le fait qu'il n'y a pas de version berline offerte. Voilà une particularité qui sera probablement bien acceptée dans le marché canadien (surtout québécois), mais qui représente un pari beaucoup plus audacieux chez nos voisins du sud, là où ce type de configuration n'a pas la même popularité.
La Dodge Caliber hérite d'un bon choix de motorisation, le tout issu d'une association avec Hyundai et Mitsubishi pour la production de moteurs d'application mondiale.

Unfortunately, the old SX (an unattractive vehicle in a popular and competitive segment) did a lousy job of representing Dodge's small car division. This makes 2006 an important year for Dodge with the launch of its 2007 Caliber, a new compact car in worldwide production, designed to compete with vehicles such as the Toyota Matrix, the Mazda3 Sport and the Ford Focus.
The Caliber 2007 is a crossover (somewhere between a station wagon and a hatchback)— a radical departure from the SX, both for its 5-door body style and because no sedan option is available. This probably won't be a problem in the Canadian market (especially in Quebec), but is a big gamble in the States where hatchbacks are much less popular.
A joint venture between Chrysler, Hyundai and Mitsubishi to produce World Engines has provided some interesting engine options for the Dodge Caliber.
