Die Rundreise führt uns durch viele der verschiedenen Vegetationsstufen Südamerikas, von den schneebedeckten Anden mit ihren aktiven Vulkanen bei Quito über den immergrünen ausgedehnten Urwald im Quellgebiet des Amazonas bei Tena bis hin zu den Páramolandschaften bei Cuenca. Ecuador, der kleinste der Andenstaaten vereinigt auf engstem Raum alles, was Südamerika zu bieten hat!
Ausgedehnte Wanderungen durch Primär- und Sekundärwald bringen uns das faszinierende und komplexe Ökosystem des Amazonas nahe. Im Gebiet Cotopaxi finden wir ursprüngliche kleine Bergdörfer mit freundlichen Bewohnern und authentischen Indiomärkten.
Ein Höhepunkt ist sicherlich die Fahrt auf der „Allee der Vulkane“. Imposant und mächtig türmt sich der höchste aktive Vulkan der Erde, der Cotopaxi mit 5.897 Metern Höhe auf – wo wir bis auf 4.500m hoch fahren. Auch der inaktive Vulkan Chimborazo, mit seinen 6.310 Metern Höhe, sowie viele weitere Vulkane warten auf uns.
Ebenso steht eine abenteuerlichen Fahrt mit dem Zug über die berühmt, berüchtigte „Teufelsnase“, einst eine der schwierigsten Bahnstrecken der Welt, an. Die historischen und von der UNESCO als Weltkulturerbe geschützten Städte Cuenca und Quito werden ausgiebig erkundet und die größte Inka-Ruinenanlage Ingapirca wird besichtigt. Am wunderschönen Cajas Nationalpark entdecken wir die Paramo Landschaft mit ihren vielen Seen.

The itinerary will take us through many different vegetation levels of South America, from the snow-capped Andes with their active volcanoes in Quito, over the evergreen vast jungle at the headwaters of the Amazon in Tena to the paramo landscapes in Cuenca. Ecuador, the smallest of the Andean countries combines everything South America has to offer in a very confined space! Extended hikes through primary and secondary forests will bring us close to the fascinating and complex ecosystem of the Amazon region. In the Cotopaxi area, we will find pristine small mountain villages inhabited by hospitable people and authentic Indian markets.
A highlight is certainly the ride along the "Avenue of the Volcanoes". Impressive and powerful towers the Cotopaxi, the highest active volcano on Earth, with its 19,347 feet – there we will ride up to 15,646 feet. The inactive volcano Chimborazo (20,561 feet) and many more volcanoes are waiting for us, too.
Also an adventurous train ride over the famous, infamous "Devil's nose" (once one of the most difficult railway treks of the world) is included.
The historical cities Quito and Cuenca, both declared by the UNESCO as World Heritage, will be extensively explored and we will discover Ingapirca, a visitor sight with the largest Inca ruins. At the beautiful Cajas National Park we will discover the paramo landscape with its many lakes.
