I have been doing translation work since finishing grad school - thus for more than 35 years. Full time for the last 10 years. My BA is in French and Russian. My MA is in French. My PhD (candidate) is in French with a concentration in Linguistics with a focus on phonology, morphology and syntax. I did a one year graduate program in French at the Sorbonne (Paris). While working for Air France (5 years in NYC and Paris) and 12 years in investment banking (Lehman Brothers and Bear Stearns) I was pursuing a career as an opera singer (1972-1992). In the late 1980s I taught French, Italian and Russian diction to singers from the Metropolitan Opera. This was done on a part time basis where conductors would send singers to work with me. During my stint at Air France in the early 80s I took a one year hiatus to study and sing in Milan. My 13 years in Investment Banking (1985-1998) was as a Supervisor then Manager where I was in charge of technology. I went on to write a college textbook in Windows in 2006 published by J. Wiley. I have recorded 8 tutorial programs in MsOffice for a company called LearnKey (2007-2013), an outgrowth of being a certified Microsoft Office specialist in Excel. After leacing the opeI took I did I have done one year of study towards a Masters Degree in Psychology (counseling) and am certified in several personality assessment tools (Keirsey and SELF). My translation work initially was largely focused on financial, technology and legal. About 15 years ago I added Life Sciences/Medical translation. I work with translation companies but also do both translation and interpretation for law firms in the NYC area.
