single-member / single-shareholder simplified joint stock company
This is basically a sole trader who has incorporated. No exact equivalent term in the UK, where such a company would simply be a private company.

simplified joint stock company with a sole shareholder
This is not necessary a sole trader or a single member company. All the shares may be held by a single shareholder (which could be another company or an individual). Some of these companies are indeed quite large, just not publicly traded.

: The "joint stock" part is a bit of a historical-relic term (antedating limited liability). I like "simplified company with shares". Indeed, car maker Renault is an SAS, with two shareholders.
