"calculation" in "maille de calcul" is pretty much redundant as the context makes it clear that this is fluid dynamics problem. Mesh generation is hugely important in finite element models, and applies to almost any engineering problem you can think of. Where things change very rapidly, such as near the tip of an electrically charged spike, you will need a very fine mesh; far away, the mesh will be much coarser to reduce computation time. Google "mesh generation" or "meshing schemes" for more info.

I have the impression a "grid" is more "static" (eg nodes are GPS coordinates), whereas a mesh changes shape (eg. surface deformation due to external forces). "taille des mailles de calcul" is about the "holes" in the mesh and could perhaps be rendered as "tighter or looser calculation mesh", "calculation mesh tightness" or something like that.

don't know why, but this came to me in a flash while otherwise engaged, but there seems to be something in it. At least, it's used in connection with flood modelling, lighting calculations, flows, luminance,...

I don't know either, but I don't think it's important. I'm guessing it means the area in which the measurements are carried out, and how many measurements are taken within that area.

just a guess, and not an educated one (sorry, no time!) but have you considered calculation mesh or even calculation panel, where this might be part of a mesh?
