anglais term

reckoning (urgent)

anglais vers français Affaires / Finance Entreprise / commerce
Bonjour,

In 2019, The Business of Fashion reported that the fashion industry was experiencing *a reckoning*, largely due to rising costs and fluctuating profit margins.
At the center of this whirlwind were legacy distribution channels like wholesale, along with direct-to-consumer pipelines and other emerging models.

merci

@Tony J'avais un doute, d'où mon point d'interrogation. Merci!
Christine HOUDY Jun 12, 2020:

Tony M Jun 12, 2020:
@ Lorraine Sadly, that really has nothing to do with it here.
Tony M Jun 12, 2020:
@ Asker The idea is really that they are going to find out the lean, well-managed profitable businesses, which will survive; and the others, which won't. It's like the Biblical Day of Reckoning, the Last Judgement if you like.

agree Tony M : Although not qualified to comment on the forumation in FR, I certainly agree this conveys the tone of the S/T in EN.

disagree Tony M : I really can't see how you get that from the S/T?

cf. Day of reckoning

"a time when the effect of a past mistake is experienced or when a crime is punished."

agree Tony M : Yes, the idea is very close to 'règlement de comptes' (which is after all the literal meaning of 'reckoning')

Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : Not really. Doesn't really convey the whole nuance of the S/T

Peer comment(s):

disagree Tony M : Not the sense here; you were closer with your suggestion of 'bilan' / Yes, but here, this is not accounting jargon.
